Kindergarten •
In Kindergarten they have been discuss-
ing signs of spring. They also have been
very busy making, booklets, butterflies and
bubble paintings. 1,ast wei,k, they had the
opportunity to work on the computer with
volunteer Mrs. Mct'ann.
Grade 6, Room 7
()n Wednesday, April 15, our Class went to
theMetro Toronto Zoo. We left at 8 a.m. and
girt hack at 6:15 p111. Thanks to Teade Bak,
key we had a safe trip. At the zoo We saw
many strange animals as we visited in
African, Indo-Nlalayaii, Australian and
American pavillions. We als.o took the
mono -rail and saw 'the Canadian area.
SOW(' of the favorite animals were
orangutans, polar bears, snakes and
penguins„ .
Grade 3, Room 10
Mrs, Otte -well's grade 3 class had another
guest time with Mrs. Graharn, art co-
ordinator, as she taught as how to make
things by folding. paper.. We made a cup,
boat, box and a Chinese firecracker.
Two of our reading „groups have learned/
abimt Mexico .and are making pinatas --with
our classroom volunteer, Mrs. Webster.
Another group of students is writing books
and being "authors" under the supervision
of Mrs. Blake in the library.
Grade 1-2
In ,Mrs. Young's grade 1-2 class, Ryan
Elliot was "All about n'te" last week. This
week it is Jay, -.J. HuMphrey. '
On Tuesday, April 23, Miss • M.ather's
grade 1 welcomed Mrs. Graharn to their
,classrooin. SHe showed them how to paper -
tear properly and then they made .a -torn"
• picture. Also on -Thursday, they joined with
grades 1-2 and had a "Carrot Day." They
rotated through several carrot -related
ic-
tivities and even 'had the chance to make
and sample a carrot muffin.

In geography we are starting a new pro-
ject. Team 3 won in girls basketball house -
league.. The boys .haven't finished Their
- league. We are postponing hOuseleagne-ac-
tit'iity Until the concert is over.
• We are noiv halfway through -our Wolf
Unit. We 'have 'learned many things about
wolves. Some of the various activities we
have done have to do With phonics, reading
and creative writing.
Grade 8' .
On Tuesday, April 21, Ruth Linton ca Me to
our school and'talked to the Grade a's abo,ut-
familylife. All ofus enjoyed the„Easter holi-
day. This week we have. been busy'' getting
things ready. for the 'concert.
Grade 4-5, Portable 2 •
Mr. Culp's grade, 4-5 are, learning about
lotsand concessions and • are playing a
geography game. Mr. Culp brought,in a big'
map of. all the lots and concession's in Huron
'County. This is how toplay: first onepupil
says his -her lot and concession. That person
then picks someone who must find the cor-
reel. lot and concession on the big map.
They will uselhis inforrnation in their study
of pioneers in Huron County.
Puppets.
Mrs. Graham was at Brookside. on,Thurs-
day and Friday helping Mr. Hazlitt's grade
8 students to make marionette puppets us-
ing old light bulbs, nylons and scraps of
material. The first step was moulding faces
00 the light, bulbs with slat and here there
was a great variety of ideas. Sincere thanks
10 volunteers Mrs. Joan Black, .Mrs Karen
Roberts and Mrs. Brenda ,Wylds.
Grade '3, Rooth 4 '
In room 4, Krakatoa, this week is Marc's
introducing:. We are doing. our Spring 'Con-
cert rehearsal. We're ' pretty „Super-
califragilisticexpialidocious! We are learn-
ing how ta do research with Mrs. Blake. We
will each be picking an animal to learn
about,. A lot of people will be picking horses
because a lot of us really like horses in our
room. We're stiftetting community letters
back. We've had -letters from England,
Australia,. De•nver-Colorado, Lincoln -
Nebraska. and from many places in
Ontario.
The tiDC1 Vikings Cheerleader's held a hake sale at the Suncoast Malt Saturday in an effort
to raise funds for a proposed 1987-88 trip to a high school cheerleading competition to be held
