LYLE McKEOWN BANNISTER
Mr. Lyle McKeown B-a,nnister, of
Goderich, died at Riverview, Florida on
Monday, April 20 at the age of 80.
Born in Plympton Township in Lambton
County on December 2, 1906, he was the son
of the late Joseph Bannister and the former
Margaret McKeown. He married the
former Cecil Robena Ford, who survives, on
September 26, 1929 in Christ Anglican
• Church, Forest.
Mr. Bannister farmed on the 14th conces-
sion of Plympton Township near Forest. He
moved to .Goderich in 1940 and was
employed at Goderich Motors and later
• Goderich Manufacturing until 1953 when he
became,/ associated with his son at
Bluewafer Truck Centre until his retirement
in 1971. He was past president of the
Goderich Trotting Association and a
member of St. George's Anglican Church.
Surviving besides hiswife, are one son
Carlyle and his wife Marilyn of Goderic; one
sister, Peg and her husband Dr. M.P. Miller
of Brandon, Florida; one sister-in-law, Jean
(Mrs. Gordon. Bannister); and, several
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one sister, Louise
(Mrs. Ellis Gregory) and one brother
Gordon.
The funeral service was held do Friday,
.April 24.at the McCallum and Palla Funeral
Home with Rev. Robert J. Crocker of St.
George's Anglican Church officiating. ,In-

FLORA MARGARET DURNIN
A Dungannon native, Flora Margaret
Durnin, died on April 16, in her eighty-first
year.
She was born on {lune 22, 1906, in Ashfierd -
Township, Huron County .a daughter of the
late Henrietta Crawford) and Robert Durnin; ..
She is survived by her' sister-in-law, Lena
Bennett Durnin, two nieces and one nephew, ,
Six great nieces, eight great nephews and
fifteen great great nieces and nephews, all
citizens of the USA.
Flora graduated from Macdonald In-
stitute, University of Guelph, in 1927 and
took her internship as a dietitian in Western
Hospital, Toronto. Shewas a County Horne
Economist with :the = ntario Ministry of
Agriculture and ,Food from 1929 until she
retired in 1966. She served a number of coun-
ties, as many as six at One time. Her longest
period in one county was in Grey, from the,
beginning of 4-H HomeKnaking Clubs in 1935
until she retired in 196 , a total of 32 years.

Sergeant" Bryan Feagan of . the Royal
Canadian Mounted Police, stationed in Ed-
monton, Alberta, won two gold and one
silver medal in the alpine.ski events of the '
first Canadian Police Alpine Games, held
January 12-16, 1987, at '. Whistler and
Blaekcomb Mountains in British
Columbia.
. This first Canadian Championship was
well attended, and competitors were pre-
sent from Canada and the Northwestern
United States. • International police' ski
competitions are held annually in Trento,
Italy; and North American championships -
are held at Aspen, Colorado. •
Competing in the over 40 age category,
Bryan won gold medals' in Slalom and '
Super G. His. silver medal was gained in
the Giant Slalom, where he was edged out.,
of the gold by one tenth of a second, by
another RCMP comp( titor, from B.C.

Goderich, and a gr duate of G.D.C.I.,
Bryan started skiingi Goderich in 1960, at
the ski hill operatey the Ross family on
the Driver farm j t east of town. He
credits a six-year sting in Banff with
-developinghis skiff ; and began Masters
style competition s era) years ago in the
Ottawa area, wher e won gold medals in
his class in 1986. Ma ter ski races are gain-
ing in popularity a offer the opportunity
for .skiers old and oung to thrill to the
competition of alpine racing. While ex Na-
tional Team or Provincial' Team racers
can make the races very high in calibre,
usually a -good- cross section of skiing
abilities is represented, ,With fun and
challenge for all.

She was a life member of the Anglican
Church, the Alumni of Guelph University,
the Ontario Quarter Century Club, the Cana-
dian Home Economics Association and the
Ontario Genealogical Society.
Since 1969, following the death of her
father, Flora has lived with Nora Creyke, on
a Century Farm in Tecumseth Township,
Simcoe County. Both have since their retire-
ment, been involved in Church work in
Parish and Deanery, in gardening and plan-
ting of trees - ornamentals, fruits and nuts.
They were members of he Ontario 'Rock
Garden Society and of S.O.N.G. - the Society
of Ontario Nut Growers and took part in
planting trees in many areas for the, benefit
of wild life and for the enjoyment.of future
generations.
Following cremation her ashes will be
scattered over the graves of her ancestors in
Dungannon Cemetery. These include seven
plots, three Durnins. two Crawfords, one
Maize and one Smyth. There are two other
ancestral plots in Canada, one a McGregor
plot, at Kintail, also in Ashfield Township
and one a Crawford plot• in Neepawa,
Manitoba.
A Memorial Service will be held in the
Anglican Church she attended at a date not
yet determined.
French students at St. Mary's Separate School in Goderich were treated to a morning of
songs and stories Friday morning as "Cormier and Deschenes" presented "Des p'tites
chansons d'Acadie'•'. Students were encouraged to join in singing with the performers dur-
