There will be. added pressure this season
as the GDCI track and field team strives to
to win its fourth consecutive Huron -Perth
chanipionship.
The team competes today, in the first of
a series of exhibition meets, at the London
Westminister Invitational meet in London,
%tic..his scheduled a week earlier than last
year, In fact, all of their competitions, in-
cluding the Huron -Perth championships at
Goderich May 5-6 are scheduled a week
ahead.
Coach Phil Bugler said the team will
have to work harder to get in shape but
feels they have what it takes to excel in
track: commitment, desire and a will-
ingness to work hard.
They pay the price with • mental
toughness," said Bugler'.
Bugler said he lost some good athletes
and gained some good athletes and 50 per
cent of the 70-80 team members will be new
corners. New to GDC'I but not new to
track, he added.
Competition is in the midget, junior and
senior; levels for boys and girls.
GDCI will compete at Huron -Perth as a
team but competitors will advance from
there as individua.18. Bugler tries to instill
a team spirit but admits that most of the
rewards in track are individual.
Some of the outstanding athletes on the
team Bugler said are worth watching in -
elude: senior girls sprinter, Joanne Camp-
bell who has been Huron -Perth champion
every year; senior girls sprinter, Erin
Robinson who is younger than pbelland
has consistantly won herage group; senior
boys distance runneri 800, 1,500 and 3000
meters), Shane Worsell; thrower, Ray
Bedard Who competes in shot put, discus
and javelin and Bugler said is one of the
best shot putters in this. part of Ontario.
GDCI competes at exhibition meets on
April -23 at the Medway Relays, April 25 at
Forrest City Meet at University of Western
Ontario and April 29,4 Tilsonberg Relays.
Competition begins in ernest when
Goderich hosts the Huron -Perth Cham-
pionships and winners move on to the
