Patricia •Reid, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
W.K. Reid of 157 Wilson Street in Goderich,
and Terry Buys, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.
Buy's of London, were united in marriage at
King Street United Church in London on
February 14,1987. They are residing in Lon-

Marianne Alexis Menzies, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs..E. Beecher Menzies, Clinton, and
William Thomas Gibson, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Fred ; Gibson • of RR5 Clinton, were
united in marriage on Saturday, March 28 in
Wesley-WilliUnited •Church. Rev. Albert
E.A. Menzies, .grandfather of the bride,
assisted by Rev. James Bechtel, conducted
the late afternoon ceremony. Margot Men-
zies, sister of the bride, was the'. maid of
honor. She and bridesmaids Wendy -%Mid-
degaal, Clinton, friend of the bride, Mary
Gibson, Clinton, sister of the groom, and
Carolyn Wood, Toronto, friend of the bride,
wore ankle length gownsof emerald green.

Assiting the groom was the best man, Brian'
Falconcer, Clinton, friend of the groom. The
guests were ushered in by Paul Middegaal,
Clinton, friend of the groom, Robert Men-
zies, London, brother of the bride and
Beecher Menzies Jr., Ottawa, brother of the
bride. The wedding reception and dinner
was held at the Stanley Township Complex,'
Varna, afterwhieh the newlyweds left for a
trip to the Dominican Republic. The bridal
couple are residing in Tuckerstnith
Township.
Lochlash residents
Mr. and Mrs. Art Matthewman have
returned home after spending the winter in
Reddington Shores,•Floritia.
They found it damp down there and they
found it very hard to get their usual winter
tan. But, on the whole, it was a lovely
winter. While in the south, their daughter
and son-in-law Marg and Terry Pettis of
Prescott presented them with another
'grandson, Matthew, a wee brother for
Jamie and Beau.
On Friday evening, Jim Webster of
Waterloo came home and took his mother,
Kae Webster back to the city for a couple
of days. There, she visited with Bob and
Elsie Zarnke, also of Waterloo.
Former Goderich resident Mervin
Frederick Noble dies at age' 8 2
MERVIN FREDERICK NOBLE
Mr. Mervin Frederick Noble of Wasaga
Beach died on Tuesday, March 31 at the age
of 82. 4.
He was a former resident of Goderich
from 1944 to 1956. He was prominent in
Lions Club activities.
Mr. Noble was predeceased by his first
wife, Mabel, and by his second wife Mar-
jorie Isab61 (Ross ). Surviving hint are his
wife Frances of Wasaga Beach and two
sons, Gordon of Ottawa and Donald of
Toronto.
Funeral services were held at Cookstown
on Saturday, April 4 under the care of Kent
Undertaking of Cookstown. Cremation
followed.
ANTHONY CHARLES VROOMAN
Anthony Charles Vrooman, of 151 Park
Street West in Windsor, died on Saturday,
April 11 at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor.
He was 70 years old.
Surviving are his wife, the former
Dorothy Winnifred Morgan; two sons,
Bryden and his wife Diane of Corunna, and.
Murray and his wife Lee Ann of Pontiac,
Michigan; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce
( Kathleen) Knight of Corunna, and Mrs. •
• John ( Janet ),Srnith of Petro.lia; five grand-
children, Angie, Lisa, Chris, Dean and Paul.
- Also surviving are one brother, Frank •of
Qualicum Beach, B.C.,,and one sister, Mary
of Brantford. •
He was predeceased by three brothers,.
Bryden, Thomas and Edward.
The•funeral service was hell at the D.J.
Robb Funeral Horne in Sarnia on Tuesday,
April 14. Burial at Union "Cemetery,
MooretoWn.
VERA ELLEN i-111DIE
Vera Ellen Hudie of C1inttn died in Clinton -
Public Hosptial on April 7. She was 79.
Mrs. Hudie was born on June 15, 1907 in
Goderich Township to the late .John Alex-
ander -and Mable Elizabeth (Johnston )'Cox.
On December 29, 1927, she married the late
Thomas Hudie at the Cox farm -in Goderich
Township.
Following their marriage in 1927 they.
farmed in Goderich, Township until 1965,
when they sold the farm and moved to Clin-
ton where Mrs. Hudie has resided since.
• Mrs. Hudie, who was an ACW member for

her sisters, Mrs. William ( Dell) Jervis of
Goderich, and Mrs. Jim ( Beth) Cleave of
Bayfield and two brothers, Carl and -Alvin
Cox, both of Clinton. She is also survived by
several nieces and nephews.
She'was predeceased by one sister, Blan-
che Cox and by, one brother in infancy.
A funeral service was held on April 9 at
the Ball and Falconer Funeral Horne with
Rev. Aubrey Bell officiating.
Pallbearers were Jerry Cox, Brian Cox,
Terry Cox, John Edgar., Jack Glover and
John Hudie. The flower bearers were Craig
Cox, Jason Cox, Ray Cox and Donald
Harris.
DOROTHY ALLEN
Dorothy Allen. of Goderich, and formerly
of Listowel and Fordwich, died at her
residence Wednesday, April 8. •
Born in London, England.in 1899 she im-
migrated to Canada as a child and -was rais-
ed in •Bronte, Ont. In 1926, she married
Everett Allen of Fordwich, where they
farmed until 1964 before moving to Listowel.
Following the death .of her husband on
April 8, 1979, Mrs. Allen continued living in
Listowel until 1985 when illness brought.her
to Goderich to reside with her daughter
Joan, Mrs. Harold Hibbert.
She is survived by four daughters: Joan
( Mrs. Harold Hibbert I of Goderich and
granddaughters 'Marie, . Dianne and Barb;
Nell (Mrs. Bob Holland) of Cardson, Alberta
and grandchildren Ted, Jim, Judy and Nan-
cy; Jeanne ( Mrs. Ed Mundle I of 'Goderich
and grandson Gary: and Marge ( Mrs. Nyle
Soehner) of New Hamburg and grand-
` children Guy, Mark, Gail and Joanne. She
is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Allen was predeceased by,one grand-
son and one great-grandson:'
There was no visitation or funeral service.
• -Interment was in Fordwich Cemetery
'following cremation. -
A lover of flowers and talented with her
hands, .Mrs. Allen will be remembered for
her generosity in sharing her flowers,
garden' and handwork, particularly .her
St. James Church, Middleton; is survived by quilts.
Fire destroys barn of Kintail reside
The community would like to wish Bob
Farrish a.speedy recovery after being a
' patient in Stratford hospital last week.

Frances Marsman of London is visiting

Unfortunately, the' barn of Bernard
O'Neil burned down on Wednesday morn-
ing, April 7., Some hay and equipment as
well as -some farm equipment belonging to
), neighboring farmers was lost4n the blaze.
Many ladies in the area attended a
shower for '.Debbie Drennan at
Kingsbridge on Thursday ,night. Debbie
received many lovely gifts. Assisting Deb-
bie in opening her gifts were her sister
Anne Johnson, Jackie Van Osch 2nd the
groom's sister, Shannon Courtney.
On Saturday, April 11, volunteers show-
ed up at the Kintail Presbyterian Camp for
their annual spring clean=up. The camp is
now officially open for the summer season.

On Saturday afternoon, Kae, Jim and
Cecil Webster attended the circus at the
Kitchener Auditorium. The circus was
really good. it was really hard to say what
portion of the event was the best - it was all
so good
Former Goderich resident
made deputy minister
A former Goderich resident has been ap-
pointed as assistant deputy minister of Ad-
ministration and Finance ,in Manitoba
recently.
Tim Sale, son of Mrs. Grace Bridle and
nephew of Mrs. Margaret Nairn, both of
Goderich, was appointed to the position by
Manitoba Education Minister Jerry Storie.
Sale assumes the position left vacant when
Dr. Glenn Nicholls became deputy minister.
Sale has been senior policy analyst with
the Federal -Provincial Relations and
Research Division of Nluuii„ lio 1 u4.tut•t:
since 1985. During the period, he fostered'
the development of the Manitoba Coalition
on Health and Higher Education, composed
of some 34 organizations, including unions,
universities and voluntary organizations. .
Prior to entering the government service,
Sale was executive director of the Social
Planning Council, executive secretary of the
,Planning and Researcl(r Council of Win-
nipeg's United Churches, executive director
of the Community Ecumenical Mini'try in
Fort Rouge and associate priest at St.
Paul's Anglican Church in Fort Garry.
From 1971 to 1977, he was a school board
trustee in Fort Garry, serving two years as
chairperson. He has also served as a
member of the United Way, secretary -
treasurer of the Winnipeg Housing and
Rehabilitation Corporation, Manitoba
representative on the National Council of
tion, chairperson of two Inner City Con;
ferences and of the South Winnipeg Family
Study.
He has a baehelor's degree in Science and
Theology from the University of Toronto.
He has taught various human service plann-
ing and evaluation courses, and 1s
authored numerous briefs and reports bn
topics ranging from pension reform to child
welfare. He currently teaches Canadian
Public Policy at the University of Manitoba
in the Faculty of Continuing Education.
Sale is married and has three children.
