"The police call the Block Parent corn-
munic.ations co-ordinator and chairman
who in turn call area representatives and
block parents. They are asked to check
• their streets and vacant buildings,'' she
explained.
McKee noted that the system was ac-
tivated in the Winter of 1985 when two little
boys were reported missing. The search
was called off when they were found by
members df the snowmobile club.
ALWAYS NEED HELP
The local Block' Parent organization is
always" in. need of help and. hold meetings
on a fairly regular basis in hopes of attrac--
ting more members.
"We try to have an annual open house in
the spring as weli as regular publicity
throughout the year. We do try to have
monthly meetings of the executive and
area representatives. The program is ac-
tually very simple and we do need more
help. As the saying goes, 'Many hands
make for light work'," McKee said.
Currently, there are many upcoming
vacancies in the Block Parent executive
that need to be filled. There will be a
meeting on April 15 at 9:30 a.m. in the
Recreation Room at the Grandstand.. Ex-
ecutive positions include area represen-
tatives r the town is divided into six areas),
co-workers, chairman, co-chairman, com-
munications co-ordinator, treasurer,
secretarY, map and applications co-
ordinator and a public relations person.
If you have a extra hours a month to of-
fer, consider supporting the Block Parent
Association by being a Block Parent or
assisting on the executive.
While Goderich residents should be pro-
ud af the number of Block Parent homes in
the community that are there to help the
town's children when in need, they should
also realize that a program always needs
• improving and the only way to dathis is by.
getting involved. •
