about 800 trees
Fifty Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from.
the 4th Goderich Group at North Street
United Church, will plant 800 young trees
in .the town of Goderich on April 25. The
tree planting 'represents Scouting's con-.
tribution toward improving ecology in the
. community and will raise funds to support
Scouting activities -locally, nationally and
in Third World developing countries.
The Scouts will collect pledges for each
tree planted during the period .April 8
through April 25. They' wiull be joining
other Cubs and Scouts throughout Canada
in this "Trees for Canada" project; which
has been in operation over 20 years.
Last year, 4th Goderich Group made a
,donation of $200 from, pledges collected to
Huron District's "Project Senegal.". This
project provides funds (about $5,000 last
year ). to set up a tree nursery in Senegal,
'West Africa. Trees will be planted by
Senegal°Scouts:to helpretardthe spread
of the desert in that country.
Perth MP opposes
rail abandonment
Harry Brightwell, Member of Parliarnent
for Perth, recently announced that Cana-
dian Pacific has applied to the Canadian
Tonsport Commission to abandon a portion
of the Goderich Subdivision railway line
froth Elmira to Goderich, Mile 34.9 to Mile
112.1.
The reasons cited fort this proposed aban-
donment are as follows::very little traffic on
the line; twenty miles consists of a railbed
which would require replacement over the
next ten years, and eight of the 23 bridges
would require repairs over the next' four
years.
"If an' one has any objection to this pro-
posal, the objection should be forwarded to
the Railway Transport Committee' of the
Canadian Transport Commission or alter-
natively to me and I will forward it onto the
Transport Commission. We have seen the
effect of such communication just recently .
when the Transport Commissionrefused the '
application of CNR to abandon a few of its
lines," said Brightwell.

Facilities needed
EXETER - The County of Huron may be
large in size, but not in facilities. Those two
facts were brought out when the Huron
County Municipal Officers' Association met
here on March 27.
Huron Warden Brian McBurney was
amorg those in attendance and at the noon
luncheon introdueed two visiting wardens,
Jinn Spence of Perth and Bill Skinner of
Middlesex. .
McBurney said the three had compared
notes and he found that, despite being the
host warden, he had actually had to travel;
the farthest to get to the meeting.
Spence is from Mitchell, Skinner from
Caradoc Township and McBurney is from
Turnberry Township in north Huron.
The Huron Warden also advised his au-
dience that the county will be hosting a
meeting of the Astsociation of Counties and
Regions of Ontario.
However, because of the lack of accom-
modation in Huron, the event will be held in
London.
At an election of officers held at the con-
clusion of the session, Hullett Reeve Tom
Cunningham was elected President of the
Association, succeeding Tuckersmith Reeve
Bob Bell in that capacity.
Othey executive officers are: first vice-
president, Nancy Michie, clerk -treasurer of
Morris Township; second vice-president,
Winona Thompson, Clerk -Treasurer of East
Wawanosh; one-year director, William
Vanstone, Deputy -Reeve of Colborne; two-
year, Albert Wasson, Reeve of Blyth; three-
year, James Crocker, Clerk -Treasurer of
Seaforth. Huron administrator Bill Hanly is
secretary -treasurer.
