fair bins Wednesday

This week in Mrs. Youngs Grade 1-2 the
All about me" person is Debily-n Greene.
The Grade 2 group is learning about 3-D
shapes.
Tanya Maize from Grade 3"Room 4 got the
highest amount of pledges for the Lucknow
Kinsmen Skatathon in Lucknow on March
16.. '
On, Tuesday, March 24 Miss Mather's
Grade one had an enjoyable trip to Robin-
son's Maple Sugar bush. We are learning all
about the maple sugar process,• past and
present, and the yummy, maple sugar pro-
ducts: The taffy was definitely our favorite.
Mrs. Cameron's Kindergarten" class ac-
companied Miss Mathers Grade 1 class and
really enjoyed tasting the delicious maple
products and seeing how they are made.
Miss Zinn came to Grade'6 room to give a
presentation on Europe and the British
Isles. She showed slides and discussed about
where people lived. She has written some
books and gave us a wonderful presentation.
On Friday, March 13, Brookside students
saw the film -"Flight of the Navigator" and
were let out one hour early. On Saturday
March 14 Brookside won $50 for a s»ow
sculpture contest. All the Grade 8's h d a
good holiday but wished it had lasted longer.
Tuesday March 24 basketball tryouts
began to decide the Brookside team to tryouts
to
the basketball tournament on April 13.1
Miss Jewitt's Grade two class is. on unit
•"`on "Raid". We have been doing paper and
booklets on rain. It is Caley Moore's "All
about Me" week to put up her .picture,
Grade Five,'Portable One thanks Jennifer
Black for bringing us a special treat/ from
Florida.. We enjoyed fresh tangerines on
Tuesday.
Congratulations to Mr. Tremeer w took
part in a Curling Bonspiel in Ottawa uring
holiday week. The Clinton team plat d 10th
among 200 teams all over North erica
and came home with a trophy. Mr. Tremeer
said he also acquired a cold fpr his
activities.
Mrs. Graham visited our class room and
showed us how to make flowers out of paper.
We made spirals and Japanese Lanterns.
We did Spring art and we made a list of Spr-
ing and Easter words. We havenearly
finished our Canadian Research and Cana-
dian Centres.
,On March 24, Grade 4 room 9 did an under
water picture with Mrs. Graham. On the
27th we are having hot dogs. Next week the
class is going to have a test on New;
foundland. •On March 31, Grade 4, is having
pay day. And after the test on Newfoundland
Grade 4 R 9 is starting a project on under-
water animals.
Science Fair 1987 I
The school, science. fair will be held on
Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2.
Projects are being, set up in the gymnasium
beginning at 1 p.m. Evaluation will begin
after school. On Thursday, classes. will visit
the displays. Parents -and friends are invited
to view the projects from 9:00 a.m. to 2:20
p.m. Projects will be dismantled before bus
time.
Mrs. Allen's Grade 7 class is involved in
basketball tryouts. We have been working
on a novel called "Cal),, It Courage". We,
have been working on our science projects,
and putting the finishing touches on them. In .
geography we've been working on "The .In-
dustrial Heartland of North America." We
learned that two-thirds of Canada's popula-
tion is along the St. Lawrence and the Great
Lakes, 'and .what attracted people to this
area.
Mr. Jim Cameron, associate public educa-
tion officer from the Bruce Nuclear Power
Development, • visited . our school.. With
Room 12 and 8, he demonstrated different
forms' of energy. He also showed slides of
various uses of solar 'energy and wind
power. Mr. Cameron . discussed elec-
tromagnets and other sources of electricity
with students in Portable 1 and Portable 2.
Grade 3 room 4, Krakatoa, is real busy.
We are studying communities. We are
writing letters to people all over Canada and
the. U.S.. to find out about other com-
-munities..We are even writing to Japan and
Australia! We are introducing Tanya Maize
this week. We are doing some spring centers
now and they are fun. 'They are about spring
flowers, birds, insects and animals. Some of.
us are working in a writing workshop with
Mrs. Blake.
Survey
This week's question for the senior classes
is "Do you think young people should have
regular chores and responsibilities around
the house?" '
Mrs. Tebbutt the Grade 6 teacher said
"definitely". Philip Neal said "`yes". Ian
Hakkers said no". Joel Wright and Matthew
Sproul both said "yes".
The junior question this week is '"What
fairy tale do you like the best?"
Darryl Gibson and Misti Humphrey both
said "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Joshua Asnong said Robin Hood. Nathan
Purnin said Peter Pan. Drew Black said
Peter and the Wolf. Devon MacDonald said
He-man, and Heather Irwin saidyPeter Pan.
Colborne Pulilie School held their annual Science Fair last week for students in grades 4
through 8. Projects on every conceivable topic filled the gymnasium. Winning the grade 5
division was Allan'Zurbrigg for his.project on "Solar Energy". Elis experiment was design-
