the MacKay Centre for Seniors sine 1983. The card of life program
is similar to th,e Medic Alert program. Participants receive cards
listing pertinent medical data, to be carried in wallets and left in-
si& refrigeraters to inform others what to do'in an emergency. At

at M ac K ay Centre variety pro gr
A large crowd turned out for our Variety
Program .on March 25 despite the stormy
weather: Beatrice Sparling , opened the
evening's proceedings by welcoming
everyone toMacKay Centre and introducing
the Robertson School Junior Choir led by
Mrs. 'Hutchinson. The choir : sang. "O
Canada" followed by ••a medley of popular
songs including "I 1 Had A Hammer" and a,
''lively rendition of ."I'm Gonna Wash That
Man Right Out Of My Hair"',from the
musical South Pacific..
Three contestants from the recent public
speaking competition gave presentations.
Jason Demspter (a grade,8 student) spoke
about the school ,systems of today and 100
years ago making witty comparisons bet-
ween the two. Jodi Hayter (a grade 6 stu-
dent) spoke about the advantages and disad-
vantages of being a twin. Jason Hayter,
"`the Twin", spoke about the common cold.
It was a pleasure to hear these children
speaking with such. confidence. and flair.
' Obviously, a lot of,hard work and'prepara-
tion went into the speeches.
To complete our "young talent" theme,
three'students from Mary Lynne Telford's
dance class performed for us'. Kathy Durst,
Lisa Sillub and Brian Livesay delighted the
audience with their dancing. Barbara`Des-
jardine closed the first half of the:program
with an impersonation of Minnie Pearl that
was very funny.
After a • short , intermission,. Kathleen.
Buckley introduced Madeline Roske (health
nurse) who gave a short presentation about
the monthly clinic held at West Street Apart-
ments, Mrs. Roske explained'. the various
services offered by the.clinic such.a's blood
Pressure screening and_ footcare. She
brought along a film entitled "Don't Take it
Easy" which. showed, interviews with
seniors involved in fitness. The film showed
many different types of fitness programs
from keep fit classes and dance elasses to'
just ..plain walking., the film stressed the
need to maintain an active lifestyle.
Beatrice Sparling thanked all the people„
who had taken part in the program' and dos-
