world hunger.
Don Langford, B.A.Sc. i Guelph 1, .was ap-
pointed to the consultant's position on
December 1, 1986. He will be in Goderich on
Sunday, April 5 to speak on world hunger
and his recent visit to Africa at North Street
United Church at 7:30 p.m.

the rural crisis, the pressing need to help the
church face social and justice issues, Mr.
Langford is uniquely prepared to help meet
these challenges in our churches. He is a

also a returned missionary from Eastern
Algeria . where he served . with the World
Council of Churches.

Telecare starts
in Goderich
Anyone in a crisis situation and 'needing
support in the future will be happy to hear
that the Huron County Steering Committee
of the Canadian Mental Health Association
(CMHA) has set up 'a 24 hour telecare line.
This line will able for those 'who are
distressed, lonely, depressed, suicidal or
under a great deal of pressure and need so-
meone to talk to or provide advice.
Karen Day-Rondeau, chairperson of the
county's CMHA branch, has been' working
on the project for,the last five months with
Maurice Jenkins, Toth Hanrahan and Don
Keillor.
"We -have found there is a need for this
service. The caller can call in, in complete
confidence, and have a trained, volunteer
professional offer support and guidance,:'
said Ms. Day-Rondeau. "The calls will not
be taped, or traced."
Ms. Day-Rondeau also added that, if the
volunteer feels it necessary, a resource area
where the person can go to get help, will'be
recommended..
• , A telecare line is presently being offered
in Stratford and' it will, be these operators
who Will be manning the phones. However,
Ms: Day-Rondeau says more volunteers are
wanted.
At the present time, the 24 hour line will
only, be offered to those in the Town of
Goderich, however, if a need is shown, the
line may eventually be extended to other
areas.
On April 12 at 2 p.m., a public meeting will
be .held at the Kinsmen Centre 1185 Keays
Street) with representatives from"the Strat-
ford, Listowel and Woodstock Telecares
present to tallitt about their operations and,
explain what Telecare is all about. Anyone
who would like to volunteer could do so at
that time.
The cost of such an operation is still
, unknown says Ms. Day-Rondeau, adding,
"It depends on the number using the.. line.
''Stratford has been in the system for a
number of years and are now self-
supporting," she said.
However, until the Goderich system can
get on its feet, financial assistance is being
asked for.
' "A committee of the Goderich Lions Club
has recommended that the club sponsor
Telecare and there will be a vote at the next
meeting," explained Mrs. Day-Rondeau.
Starting April 1,'"there will be a 24-hour
Telecare Service available to everyone in
the Goderich area. By phoning
1-800-265-4598 a caller will be able to speak
confidentially, and a no.cost, to Stratford
Telecare volunteers.
Volunteers are needed to help run the
local organization. An inaugural meeting
will be held April 12 at the Kinsmen Cen-
tre, at 2 p.m. For additional information

Fifth Su day in Lent Leads Us
tPalm Sand _;y
This Sunday is the lost Sunday before Palm Sun-
day (April 12) and the start of Holy Week - the
six days leading up to Easter Sunday, April 19. '
Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus' trium-
phant entry into Jerusalem on the back of a
donkey. It was the time of the Passover celebra-
tipn. The city was crowded with people who had
travelled many, many miles for the most Holy
event of the' Jewish faith,
As Jesus proceeded through the city, there
were.excited shouts of "Hosanna to the King".
The people placed soft palm branches before
Him) like a carpet.
Blit• those happy cries of praise for Jesus,
would turn by the next weekend to angry cries
'of "Crucify Him!" The very same people who
had welcomed Jesus such a few days earlier,
would turn on Him and demand that He be put
to death like 0 common criminal. The charge
' was blasphemy; the sentence was crucifixion.

Director of Music,
Knowing full well what misery awaited Him
in Jerusalem, Jesus willingly put Himself in the
right place at just the right time for His enemies
to find Him, arrest Him, sentence Him and kill
Him, .
Christians believe Jesus became the com-
plete sacrifice -for all mankind:who would.trust
Him for full justification before God Almighty
on the Last Day. This is the true heart of the '
Christian' faith.
