• "Font Hill was small at the time; about
2,000 in population. There were. two of us
(police officers) there although they added
a third man later. We walked around the•
viIlage, talked to the merchants, did what,
we had to do, I liked doing ,that type of
work."
'Inn 1964, Donatis was promoted to Cur -
poral and with that promotion came 'a
transfer to the Stayner OPP detachment.
In 1968,4. he accepted a position as In-
Se'rvice Training Officer for No, 7 District -
in Barrie: He worked in that capacity for
eight years before coming to Goderich.
• Donatis'.noticed one major change in
moving from Barrie to Goderich.
"We noticed a difference in the amount
of traffic. coming from Barrie. There is a
lot of traffic up there what with the skiers
and cottagers, Looking out the window at
the traffic here: 1 would see only half -a -
dozen cars go by on the highway each
hour. It was life going to an old person's
home. However, you adjust."
His job as Sergeant at the Goderich OPP
detachment involved mainly office duties,
encompassing. such things as schefluling
retires

"It's been a fast 37 years. I can still
vividly remember coming, on the job,"
He remembers when he started working

Unlike many retiring- police officers,
Donatis does not have any vivid memories.

Succeeding Donatis as Sergeant at the
beginning of the year was R.W. Turnbull,
who was previously stationed with the
Sebringvilie OPP detachment..

' vice in Goderich at „a' retirement party on
Friday, April 3 at the Goderich Memorial
