' The hospital's policy is renewable April 1, 1987. At the February meeting, board member's- were made aware of HIRO, the lospital .Iris'igrtr•,fi,`~!l?rocl, of Ontario, recently formed by the Ontario T of t r Association as an alternative for hospitals to. their traditional liability insurance coverage. Board members were also advised of three main points concerning insurance by Frank Cowan Company Limited. These were: I a )for hospitals they insure, it would seem that by the end of 1986 premium levels had reached a point where they were ade- quate to meet claim costs; ( b )there are dangers to reciprocals and that they want the opportunity of discussion these once complete details are announced; and c )premiums will bot be increased during 1987 and if claims experience continues to be sati'sfacto'ry throughout 1987; any prerniuiri • increases in 1988 will be minimal. The Finance Conunittee, after discussing HIRO and the hospital's present liability in- surance underwriter, felt that HIRO was not an alternative for the hospital. The board approved their recommendation that the hospital remain with Frank Cowan Com- pany Limited for their liability insurance.
