The Agricultural Chemcials Division of
BASF Canada "Inc. announced in
November it will lower by.11.5 percent the
suggested list price of Basagran herbicide,
widely i used 'in Eastern Canada for
postemergence .weed control in soybeans
and corn without risk of crop injury.
"With .the poor prices that• have been
characteristic of soybeans and corn in the
last feW years, Canadian farmers need to .
hold down production costs without
sacrifid'ing effective broadleaf weed con-
trol," said Hans Loose, national sales and
marketing manager. "We intend to help
them Meet that need."
Basagran received federal registration
in 19751 and is the only broad-spectrum_
postemergence broadleaf herbicide for.
soybeans in Canada. _ -

Loose -said the price reduction will help
farmers better cope with. the tough
economic conditions laguing Canadian
agriculture, particularly in Ontario where
farms have been hard hit by low soybean
and earn prices:
Loose pointed out that BASF is confident
Basagran will continue to displace tradi-
tionaI soil -applied preemergence - her-
bicides. "Postemergence products offer
important benefits unmatched by
preemergence herbicides," 11e said, citing
application flexibility, crop tolerance, lack
of herbicide carryover, control -of triazine-
resistant weed!-. and less dependence on
soil -related conditions.
