The Ontario March of Dimes 1987 Abili-
ty Fund Campaign is officially over. Mrs.
Ellen Connelly, campaign chairperson is
delighted to report that a total of $3 500
was collected in Goderich and rurar area.
. The donations recieved from our com-
munity will help enrich the lives of
physcially disabled adults in so many
ways by providing employment and job
training opportunities, camping holidays,
vvheelchairs. electronic units and other

and housing, In short, the March of
Dimes, helps disabled people discover
their potential and their ability.
The Ontario March of Dimes campaign
slogan is "Help us break the bonds of
disability," say.s Ellen. "We certainly
can continue to help the thousands of
physcially disabled adults across the pro-
vi•nce thanks to the support received from
Goderich and rural area.

1V1inistry plans to study. dropout rate,
The Ministry'of Education will undertake
a special study .on school droponts, as one of -
several ministry initiatives planned tp help
reduce 'the drop-oitt rate, Education
Minister Sean Conway announced. • -
The study will be headed by George Rad;.
wanski, former editor-in-chief of the Toron-
to Star, who.will aet as a special advisor to
Mr. Conway. ,
. This -is. an important issue to the govern-
., nient,.said Premier David Peterson, adding
theobjective of the study will be to recom-
mend ways of ensuring that Ontario's
education system is relevant to the needs of
young people and to the realities of the
labour market they are preparing to enter.
The study will look at such things as who
is droppirig out and why, plus the predomi-
nant distinguishing characteristics of to-
day's dropouts. It will also consider what
• changes,might be desirable in the structure'
of the school program, and what new ap-,
proaches — involving the schools
themselves, along with business and
government — can be initiated to bridge the
gap between education anu the workplace.
In addition to drawing on the expertise of
senior staff in the Ministry of Education and
in other government departments as ap-
propriate, Mr. Radwanski will consult. with
educators, students and members of the
business community. He will begin his work
in unedi•ately.
. Mr. Radwanski recently conducted a
study. for the provincial government on
growth areas and export opportunities
within the service sector of the .Ontario
economy.

Vanastra school to sign long term lease

its March meeting voted to enter into a long
term lease agreement with Conestoga Col-
lege in respect to the Vanistra Public
Schoolfaeility.. •

The trustees heard that the Conestoga
