This -is. an important issue to the govern- ., nient,.said Premier David Peterson, adding theobjective of the study will be to recom- mend ways of ensuring that Ontario's education system is relevant to the needs of young people and to the realities of the labour market they are preparing to enter. The study will look at such things as who is droppirig out and why, plus the predomi- nant distinguishing characteristics of to- day's dropouts. It will also consider what • changes,might be desirable in the structure' of the school program, and what new ap-, proaches — involving the schools themselves, along with business and government — can be initiated to bridge the gap between education anu the workplace. In addition to drawing on the expertise of senior staff in the Ministry of Education and in other government departments as ap- propriate, Mr. Radwanski will consult. with educators, students and members of the business community. He will begin his work in unedi•ately. .
