Dear Editor:
The following letter is a response to Mrs.
Elsa Haydon's letter in the Signal Star on
Feb. 25.
My dear Elsa, I had no idea that my view
on the youth's involvement, or lack of it in
this project would have you conclude that I
do not want such a facility. This is far from
the truth.
Yes, I do know you were at that meeting,
yet so was I, and therefore I hope I can help
you clarify why I was so, disgruntled with
the results.
Yes, my, letter may' have been a mystery
to many, people, but only because it waSn't
about facts, or figures, or the facility. It wa.s.
about an age group, and it was about the
lack of involvement the youth had in the

their opportunity to come to the meetings,
and they did not, but the question remains
as to why they did not? And the question re-
mains as to who you consider the general
public to be?
I'm sorry Elsa, but I make no apologies
for believing in political ideals. I will not
apologize for believing that our politicians
are responsible for actilig upon the concerns'
of all age and social 'groups, and not ust
groups that fall into what is considered "the
norm", And 1 will not apologize for believing
that it is our elected officials responsibility
to encourage all age and social backgrounds
to believe that- they are well within their.
rights to'h4ve their concerns acted upon by
the people ihey elected.
Elsa, it is not a question of not seeing the
forest for the trees", but rather "walking up
and smelling the coffee." These are the
1980'8, not the 1890's for goodness sake.
Don't you agree that youth haVe the right to
say ,what is good for thi:nt, not just be told
what is good for them? How else will they
make mistakes, and learn from them?
