For many years I have had a bad taste about county council. The few times that I sat in council as a listener I was amazed that three or four councillors did all the talk- ing, they seemed to, or appeared to be the top brass. Many of the others sat saying nothing or appearing to "wake" up to the call for a ,vote and raise their hands like puppets. Mr. Hanley, Mr. McBurney and Mr. Cunn- ingham, in their own words, have repeated- ly stated that they do not want anyone who dares to think any way but their way. We 'have lost good and dedicated people all because they refused to cow down to these men: These people were well qualified to do their jobs. The treatment of Dr. Cieslar and some of his staff is so smug I. will not• comment on it. I just ask that the people of Huron take the time to talk to some of these ty LE TERS peole antd listen to their side. Our health I think sh ld. be number one and knowledge from our library a close second since our young students must depend on it. You will note I have not mentioned money, costs, etc. I am no doubt one of the people Mr. Cunningham would say was un- willing to answer to the local politicians. I am very depressed today, guess I'll blame it on reading Mr. Hanly's words as he' blamed his illness pp Mrs. Haydon. Sorry fellows, I h`lipe the citizens of Huron will wake up come election time and decide they would like Huron to change just a little. "Concerned" Sincerely Doris Pagon Goderich GLAT congratulated ..r choic.recent production porting parents so that children may be nur- tured and develop optimably. That often means, parents need to be emotionally "recharged." so that they might have the energy necessary to parent children and adolescents to the nest of their ability. All parents want the best for their children - even the mom in the • play - however, sometimes the needs of the parent are so overwhelming that things do not go as well as they had planned.,, ' At Family and Children's Services we of- fer many programs to 'families who need emotional support. Penn Dear Editor: I am •writing. to congratulate and com- mend the Gocierich Little Theatre for the courage demonstrated in producing the re- cent play, "The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man -In -The -Moon Marigolds". This poig- nant play represented a departure from the usual fare, and, I believe immersed the au- dience in an awareness of the hidden lives of • many families in Canada: I also wish to comment on the family por- trayed so excellently in the play. As a family therapist and employee of . Family and Children's Services, I have had a therapeutic involvement with many families with sirniliar dynamics. The in= Proposed p ol•esi M has sen ` °Yus flaw, says reader Dear Editor: It. was with great interest that Tread the articles and letters in the last two issues of the Signal Star concerning the proposed. 'Recreation Complex in Goderich. Over the `past 12 years, I have been actively involved in the swimming programs in this area as a student, a parent and more recently, a swimming instructor at Vanastra Recrea- tion Centre. . ° Contrary to what Mrs. Haydon thinks, I did not have anyone knock at .my door or contact me in any other way to seek my opi- nions. I wonder how many other people were missed by this survey? At any rate, I feel there are two drastic design flaws in the plans for the pool. The biggest, and most important flaw is the omission of a deep end and a diving board. Starting at the third Red Cross level of swimming, students are required to learn and perform various skills in the deep end. This could neither be taught nor tested pro- perly without a deep end present. Therefore, no proper 'program of swimming lessons could be carried out in the proposed pool. The second flaw is that the pool has only three competitive swimining lanes. There should be at least four or five if the pool is to be used for competitions. Of course, without a deep end there could be no swimming competitions held as only those people Who • were Y extremely proficient in performing shallow dives could"use this pool to compete in, as there would be no deep end to safely, dive into. And where could yousafely teach a child to•dive? 'I know, as an instructor, I would not risk the danger of'teaching anyone to dive,in a shallow pool. One slip or wrong' move could result in a broken neck, a paralized • child and a million dollar lawsuit against all those involved. The proposed pool would only. -serve the needs of the very young, the very old, the non -swimmer or the very short. The rest of the population would have, to continue to drive to Vanastra or Bayfield for both our instruction and enjoyment.• While I whole-heartedly back the concept of this •centre, I could not support it, unless there are some serious changes made to the design of the pool. SearSearls questions party Sincerely, ,Mrs. Dona Baker expenditure by commission Dear Editor: I find it hard to believe how the Police Commission can justify spending. $383 of taxpayers money on a retirement party for one of its members. The party included nine persons or over 40 dollars per person and was held at Robindale's. We as taxpayers are aware that the police, commission are appointed by the provincial government and'not elected to office by the public. If they felt a party was necessary DENOMME FLOWER SH PPE INC. Phone 524-8132 DAY OR NIGHT they should have gone to Premier Peterson to see whether he would be willing to pay the bill. We liave a number of •citizens who have served on committees of council and to my knowledge have never, received such a farewell party. In conclusion I wonder if the person or persons who arranged the party' would be so generous if the money came out of their pocket, instead of the taxpayers.
