The Goderich Legion Played only one
garne last week but it was a thrilling 2-1
""Victory over Strathroy at home. The
Goderich defensive play was solid but it
was the spectacular work of goaltender
Jay Williamson that held Strathroy to one.
goal.
On a down note, the team received word
that they lost their protest of the first game
against Strathroy, An appeal is ensuing
but the league ruled that the team should
have had a representative In the penalty
box area to catch any mistakes.
On Wednesday Williamson and Rod
Nurse were the key players for Goderich.
The game was a hard hitting contest which
provided many solid hits. for the fans.
Goderich started slowly but weathered the
first couple of minutes with some outstan-
ding saves from Williamson. Action was end
to end as each team, went after -the other.
Goderich drew, first blood when Nurse
blasted a shot from the point which was

stopped, but Byron Bowman picked up the
rebound and slid it into the net past two
players.
In the second period, action continued
with Goderich handling out the more
punishiri-g hits, Hut Strathroy would tie it
up at 12:59 just after Goderich had almost
scored at the other end:-Goderich began W
take the upper hand in the game and as a
result, the Strathroy team sent a player
onto the ice to instigate something. He
tried to take on Nurse who punished the
player. More importantly though, it seem-
ed to turn the game in favour of Goderich.
•
In the third period Goderich 'hado two-
man advantage because of the earlier inci-
dent. Darrell Durnin finished off a three-
way passing; play to score the eventual
winner. Durnin passed to Tom Bean on the
right point wno sent it in to Gary Erb in the
corner. Erb spotted Dtirnin coming into
the slot, fed him the pass which tie put in
the top corner. What .was left of the
Goderich team, four defence and seven
forwards and Williamson, fought off any
Strathroy attack. In fact Goderich may
have had the best scoring opportunity with
a two on one but the shot was put up over
the net into the stn ds.
After this win-rnd the decided loss
against them, Goderich has a record of 5-3
in the ten -game round robin tournament.,
Goderich is tentatively scheduled to go to
Amherstburg on March 1 and no date has
been scheduled for the home match
against Belle River. It is believed that
Strathroy leads the playoffs with 12 points:
A.mherstburg is next with 11 points and
Goderich is tied with Belle River with 10
points. The Toss awarded to Goderich has
greatly .hurt their chances but they still
have two games to go.

Elevator Bantams play
tough despite two losses
Last Thursday evening the Goderich
Elevator Bantams played one of their best
desciplined games in the O.M.H.A"
playdowns but cavae up on the short end of
the score losing 6-5 to Strathroy. '
The Goderich team definitely had the
edge in the play' even though they trailed
1,0 after the first 10 minutes. Early in the
second period the teams traded goals with
Brian Lane scoring assisted by Andre
Cauchi to even matters but only six
seconds later Strathroy again took the
lead. •
Goderich out -hustled their opposition for
'the next four minutes resulting in a tying'
goal by Tim Harrison on a tip in from
defenseman Mike Stegenstad's shot.
However the Strathroy club again scored
quickly only fourteen seconds later and
then added another a minute inter to take a
4-2 Lead, Greg Alcock made several nifty
moves as he raced from end to end to score
the third Goderich goal with'an assist go
ing to Kevin Moss.
Within a minute Strathroy regained
their two goal advantage as the period
drew to a close hut the Goderich squad
with George Sideris doing some excellent
forechecking scored a. goal on a pass from
Brian lane with only 35 seconds left in the
period.
Sideris again in the.third period worked
hard to pull Goderich within a goal when
he scored his second of the night a neat
pass from Andre Cauchi with 1:45 remain-
ing nn the Hook Tt !nuked os if the
Strathroy goal scored 38 seconds into the
third period would prove to be, the winner
but Goderich •came close with Sideris'
goal and they had a golden chance to•tie
the score with only seconds, left in the
game.
On Sunday (otierich travelled to
Amherstburg to meet a rough, aggressiire
team. The home team opened the scoring
early in the first period. Gotlerich respond=
ed within a minute on an unassisted goal
by Brian Lane: The teams traded goals
again before the end of the period which
featured hard-hitting hockey: Goderich's
gdal was scored by Andre Cauchi, assisted
by 'Greg Alcock who dug hard to free the
puck for Cauchi.
In 'the second period Goderich went
ahead when George Sideris beat the goalie
clearly on a breakaway play set up by,
,Jason Million and Cauchi. This lead did' not
hold up as Arhherstburg went up by one on
two power play goals. Goderich had some
excellent chances and played good steady
hockey with Shawn Currie working hard in
net. In the third period with both teams tir-
ing Amherstburg scored once to win the
game 5-3.
Again in this game the locals put in an
excellent performance with all players
working welt. Coach Paul Kelly was very
pleased with his team's efforts in both
these games. Next action Monday night in
Strathroy.
