Students hold Valentine's Day party

Miss Jewitt's Grade two class had a party
un Friday for Valentine' Day.
They are going to be finished a unit on
space soon. In the unit they. have learned'
about the planets, sun, the.moon, and•the
stars. Happy Valentines Day to everyone.
They would also like to wish. Crystal
Hickey a Happy Birthday on Monday, Feb.
9,'1987.
Mrs. Worsell's Grade 5 class worked on
Valentine Activity Centres this week.
Several ;pupils also participated in the
Junior Volleyball Tournament oil
Wednesday.
Mrs. Cameron's class on Friday made•.
Valentine holders. On. Tuesday they made
Valentine cards, heart -mice and cupids.
Mrs. Ottewell's Grade .3's welcomed en-
thusiastically a return „visit from Mrs.
Graham who helped them make Valentine
'banners and Mr, Robinson who taught them
to do mime arJ,d•more concentration games.

Mrs. Young's,Grade 1-2 class is very busy
with Valentine .activities! Last weeks "All
about 111Q" was -Devon MacDonald and this
week is Graham Cere. • •
Mrs. (.'larke's Grade 3 said their speeches
.this week. They were all terrific thanks to
Mr: Warren Robinson who helped us learn
how to speak! It was hard to pick two for the
, gym but we decided to send Debbie Ross
• (Trees ) and Grant Cairncross ( Lady, My
'Dog i, 'Mr. Geoff Walker came to visit. He
•• showed us a bluebird house and pictures of
" bluebirds. We loved the colour of the
bluebird. We hope he can'come again and'
will make some homes for the bluebirds! We
,are having Valentine centres this week and
we are introducing Robin Hoggarthh We are
also having hot clogs at our Valentine Party.

The Special Canadian Grains
Program is assisting farmers
with $1 billion. This initiative,
announced by Prime Minister
Brian Mulroney, is the largest of
its kind ever undertaken by any
Canadian government on behalf
of farmers.
It is a national program that
responds to a national need. It
will help offset low grain and
oilseed prices resulting from
the subsidy war between the,
European Community and the
United States.
The first $300 million will be in
the hands of grain and oilseed
farmers this winter. Another
$700 m• o will be paid out in
the spr • g.

kindergarten peer par'tner's to make dough
bears this week. Thanks to Mrs. M. Webster .
and •Mrs. Blanchette for all the preparation
and•for• the opportunity to help create these
fairy -tale creatures. Grade (i has shown ,
their speech finalists i)ana Park and Jodi
Riley. First runner-up was Jodie Webster,.
second runner-up was Barb .Nivens.Gracle ii
reporters are Janice Webster and Heather
Jefferson.
On Monday, in Miss Mothers' class, they
welcomed Mrs. Graham, the Art Coor-
dinator. She worked with the .children to
make a repeating pattern ' using heart
shapes. This excercise was a good start to,a •
week full of Valentines Activities and
stories. •
Kindergarten Two.built an Incredible, Edi-
ble Snowman using bird seed, bread,
raisins, peanut butter, etc. to help our
feathered friends through the snowy weeks
ahead. They are also making bread bears
with the aid of Mrs. Marie Webster and
Grade 6 peer partners. ,,
This week we have two different groups
for our survey questions. For the seniors
(,IGrade 7 & 13( the question is: "Do you think
Physical Education should be compulsory in
' all grades in high school?"
In Grade 8, Jeff Storey and Rob Woods
both say that, yes Phys. Ed. should be com-
pulsary,''because w'e„l?.a*tc ceep in, shape.

BIRTHDAYS
Birthday greetings from Room 1 to Craig
Moffat and Jeff Maclean.
A Valentine theme was evident in the
school on Friday, Feb. 13 with several
rooms having goodies brought in and Valen-
tines exchanged. Many classes had hot dogs
for noon lunch augmented by sweets of all
kinds brought from home and shared, A
Valentine dance was held at noon in the
gym.

Mrs. Dee Graham, Huron County Art
• Coordinator was at Brookside on Friday.
She did snow paintings with the ehilclren in
R2 using a mixture of soap flakes and starch
- very effective on coloured paperand easily
cleaned up. Mrs Graham -taught 1 -point
perspective to Grade 6 doing street scenes.
Surviving with
Style 4-1 ,Club
holds meeting
On Feb. 9, Port Albert 4-H Club hold their
first meeting for the project "Surviving with
Style". The leaders are Donna Hayden, Bev
Weaver, and Marcia Hoak. President is
Wendy Miltenburg, Vice-president Laurie
Hayden, Secretary Rhonda Dickson, and
Press Reporter is ,Linda Hayden.
The club discussed minor plumbing pro-
blems and examined a toilet tank to see how
it works."They also discussed how to he safe
when home alone.
There are 18 members in the club. •F'or
home assignment they are to find where the
fire e)ctinguisher, breaker or fuse panel, and
water shutoff, are located it their homes,
