New sculptures, paintings, research pro-
jects, video festivals and internships are
some of the endeavors 39 art organizations
throughout the province will undertake with
grants totalling $0,1,582 Minister of Citizen-
ship and Culture Lily Munro announced.
These grants will stimulate and ,en-
courage new projects by arts organizations
which serve the needs of artists, publishers,
playwrights and designers," she said. "The
arts community is continually evolving. The
orgad►izations and associations which
cultivate works of art are embarking on
rnany exciting ventures.'
For example, the Canadian Artists'
Representation has received $10,000 to
research. the exhibition rights of visual ar-
tists; the Canadian Art Magazine Guild will
conduct a direct mail campaign with $50,000
and a $15,000 grant to the Art Gallery of
Peterbproug►i to purchase t;aifautau works
rsf art.
"Many organizations have received fun-
ding to hire interns ur apprentices,•' Munro
said. "Internships provide qualified young
people with practical training in profes-
sional atetistic anti administrative en-
vironments. This experience acts as a
catalyst, enabling them to springboard into
their 'chosen careers."
Arts organizations employing interns in-
clude. Koffler Galley, North York; Lynn-
wood Arts Centre, Simcoe, Thunder Bay Art
Gallery . Canadian Authors Association, On-
tario Potters Association, Playwrights
Union of Canada, Toronto School of Arts and
the Women's Educational Press.
