Neil Stapleton is a patient in University
Hospital, London following a farrn accident
involving a tractor and large round bale
which toppled ori him on Tuesday morning
of last week. It is.expected he will be in Lied
for at least a month while the injuries to -his
hack have time to heal. Wife Nancy, and
daughter Patricia were in London to visit
him on Monday. Many of the neighbors are
helping, Nancy with the farm chores which
't,ill must be done.
A well attended shower was held on Wed.
evening in the M.C. basement for Janet
Walden bride elect of Gary Caesar who are
to be married this Saturday: Janet received
many beautiful and useful items.
On Wednesday' evening at the Seniors
.weekly euchre high -man was Art Stewart
low roan .Jim Errington. On the pink cards
there was tie for high sore between Milly
Johnston and “4,,irclon Pollock with Gordon
winning the cut.• Low score was Deloris
Culbert, Torn Culbert won the draw on the
ham,
Sympathy is extended to Tina Kohnert
and family on the sudden death of their hus-
hand and father in his 60th • year, The
Kohnert family were former residents on
the fourth.of us W.•Wawanosh on the former
Jack Errington farm.

forrunway lights,radio
The Goderich Municipal Airport has
received approval for a subsidy for run-
wrly° identification lights and a unicorn
radio from the Ministry of Transporta-
tion and Conununications.
The estimated cost of the runway lights
is $8,000 and the cost of the radio is
estimated at $2,000. The ministry will ap-
ply a subsidy rate of 50 per cent and 80
per cent respectively to the actual cost,
for a Maximum contribution of $5,600 for
both items.
Scout week
Goderich Council . has. agreed, to
designate Feb. 15 to Feb. 22 as Scout -
Guide Week. Several Scout and Guide
groups in the area will be holding various
activities, such as banquets and church
services during this week.
From Feb. 11 tc3 Feb, 25, local Girl
Guides will lie conducting their annual
cookie -selling campaign. ,

Two new member have been appointed
by council to the Goderich Recreation
Board to replace o.ut-going members Ron
Bushell and Doug Currie.
The Administration and Personel Com-
mittee recommended the appointment of
Goderich residents Ken Engelstad and
Don Rivera to the board. Another resi-
de'nt, James Grant also applied for, but
was not granted a position on the board.
Meets solicitor
A meeting with Ontario Solicitor
General and Minister of Correctional Ser-
vices, Ken Keyes has been arranged to
discuss concerns of residents who live in
the vicinity of the Bluewater Centre for
Young Offenders.
Anyone who lives in the area and has
concerns with respect to security is asked
to call 524-7472.

be initiated as well as a self-help group for
neighbouring women to deal with all
aspects rural stress.
New by-law
A new by-law, passed byGoderich
Council Monday night, will allow owners
of land with C4 or C'5 corrunereial land
use designations to pay a cash sum in lieu
of providing the required number of
parking spaces for their businesses.
The money] I'd to the town in return
for the exemption from the required
parking provision will be not less than 33
per cent of the cost of providing the park-
ing spaces. The average. estimated cost
y of acquiring land for and construction of
one parking space is $3,000.

Science renew

Education Minister Sean Conway's plan
for the renewal of science education in the
primary and juriior divisions in . both
English and French language schools was,
outlined to the trustees of the Huron -Perth
County Roman' Catholic Separate School
Board meeting. in Dublin Monday night.
Superintendent of English Gae,tan Blan-
chette said, the, ministry Will issue a first
draft curriculum docurilent by March 1987,
„,with the final version expected to be publish-'
ed early in 1988.
• He said school board4 will be expected to•
provide teachers with curriculum `support
documents for the program,' and that the
ministry will develop a Science Unit Pur-
chase Plan in order to facilitate program
• development at th.e school board level,
• Special 'grants to school boards will be
prOvided by the ministry in support -of the
development, testing and reporting of in-
novative pilot projects in in-service teacher
education in Primary and Junior science.
'Mr. Blanchette said that more than half of
the renewal. program's $3 million budget
will be provided to school boards to support
. Its implementation. This $3 million is also
• expected to stimulate the spending of an ad-
ditional $3 ,million to $5 million by boards,
, other organizations,•and the private sector.
-The goal of this revewal is to ensure that -
science ispart of the educational experience
of every child in every school in Ontario.'
Mr. Conway said, "To ensure its success, 1
am seeking the co-operation and support of
school boards, teacher organizations,
plan. outlined to b
parent groups, and the public at large in en-
suring that our children receive the best
education that we can give them.
:•In issuing this statement," 'he continued,
''I want to reaffirm my belief in the impor-
tance of primary and junior education and
in the need to provide children at this level
with a balanced and integrated' prograrn." ,
In other business the board granted Justin
Tomasulo's application for postponement of
his teachers' funded leaveplan from 1987 to
a later date. - , .
Peter-. Edwards, custodial helper at
Goderich has resigned and Caroline Wilson
has been hired to replace him.
The board will upgrade bus sizes on' ex-
isting bus routes where necessary to accom-
rnodate the number of students' on these
roirtes,
Superintendent of Education John 'Mc-
Cauley reported that 100 students are
registered for the Grade 9 class to start the
first of September this fall at St. Michael
Secondary School in Stratford: This will be
the second Grade 9 class for this scbool- the
first one started at this new .school last
September.
Mr.,Mc('laulcy said the projected enrol-
ment of 83 students is well.. surpassed. Ac -
comrnodation and transportation must be
planned for this increased number.
The board will continue to support the
scholarship. fund of the' Kiwanis Music
Festival of Stratford with a donation of $125
for 1987.
The space allocation for a booth at the•1988
Perth County International Plowing Match
. from September 20-24 has been increased to
500-600 square feet at a cost ,of $2.00 per
square foot.
The board will rent divider curtains and a

Mr. McCauley said that along , with. the
provincial opening of Education Week in
late- April,' 1988 in which ,the Huron -Perth
Hoard will be an equal organizational part-
ner with the Perth County Board of Eddca-
tion, the Plowing Match' will• afford an ex-
cellent opportunity for the Board to
demonstrate to" ratepayers and others,
various aspects of the quality Catholic
education which the Board offers through a
variety of programs and philosophy:

-internationally Yours" is the theme of
the 63rd annual College Royal at the Univer-
sity of Guelph on March 14 and 15. An ex-
pected 40,000 visitors of different ages and
interests will enjoy many activities, M-
el Llding computer demonstrations,
psychological tests, dancing and the tradi-
tional dog,aud cat shows.
Open House hours are 9 a.m•• to 5 p.m.
Saturday and 11 am,- to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Parking and admission are free, and a shut-
tle bus service circles the campus both
days. Everyone is welcome to come and
enjoy. ,
