16 teams compete for $1,900 in -prize money at tournament
The 9th Annual Goderich Men's Recreation Hockey p.m. contest: Last year the Porkers lost their first game to=
League Tournament unfolds at the Goderich Memorial
Arena over three days beginning Friday at 6 p.in. and con-
cluding with two championship games Sunday afternoon.
The- ninth -rendition -of -the -nun -contact -tourney -will -
feature 16 teams vying for $1,900 in prize. money. 'Twenty-
two games will be played over the three-day tournament. `
Four teams frutr the host league will represent
Goderich .in. the = tournament. =The= ParkhouseRangers
kickoff the tournament playing Es Neter in the opening
garne at 6 p.rn. while Seaforth and Zurich will face off at
7:15 p.m.
The third game, of the evening should provide some ex-
cellent hockey entertainment as U lirien's Porkers. last
year's Consolation Champions, take on Lucan in an 8:30

The Sarnia Firemen will play Ouelph at 9:45 p.}n. Fri-

a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Sunday. The tournament champion-

The tournament, sponsored by the Goderich Recreation
Hockey League and Carling O'Keefe, Will feature a $5
weekend.pass. General admission is-$2.per day .and each -
ticket makes the bearer eligible, to win four tickets to a
Toronto . Blue= Jay_ game_ as_well=as=overnight=
accommodation.
On'Saturday evening, a free dance will be held in the
arena auditorium.
Tournaurent chairman, Rob Standen, says the league
will again donate-a-portion-of-the-proceeds-towards-int--
provements at the arena.
Action resumes Saturday morning at 8 a:rn. with the.
ClereVu Rockets of Holmesville playing Bayfield while
London and Wyoming play' at 9:15 a.rn. The final first
round -01'11e has Brantford playing the defending tourna
inent champs, Leamington.

Machinist Atoms ' win, tie in OMHA playoff
The Goderich Machinist Atoms enjoyed
a successful weekend of 'Ontario Minor
Hockey':Asseciation 1 OMHA f playoff ac-
tion winning one game, losing one and ty=
rug another in -three starts.
On Tuesday; Jan. 20. the Machinists
travelled to Strathroy for; its third playoff
game in the round-robin format. The game
Was scoreless until-midway_through' the
third period when Strathroy scored two
quick goals' in a 30 -second span to pall -
ahead 2-0.
With about one minute. remaining
regulation -time -David -Boyce-connected
on a' pass from Drew Macaulay to make it ' •
a 2-1 game. Goderich pulled its goaltender
in favor of an extra forward but Strathroy'
scored into the empty net to clinch the win
3-1. "
