Associate members to be more active
The general meeting of Goderich Legion
Branch 109 was held in the Jubilee room of
i the Branch on Tuesday Jan. 6. There were
58 members present -and the meeting was
conducted by Branch President Alvin
Blackwell.
This meeting marked the official visit of
the Zone Commander, Comrade Jack Tuf-
ford to our Branch. He was accompanied by
the Deputy Zone Commander Steve
Maguire of Clinton Branch 140. In his
remarks Zone Commander Tufford made a
plea for a more active participation of our
Associate members in all phases, of Legion
activity.
Two new members were initiated into'
Branch 109. This ceremony was conducted
by President Blackwell assisted by Com-
rades Bob Chapman and Les Riley.
The Branch approved the following dona-
tions: $125 to. the Canadian Diabetes Socie-
ty, $125 to the Speeial Olympics, $200 to the
Novice A Hockey Team and $240 for the pur-
chase of 12 Slider Sheets for the AMG
Hospital. Also approved was a donation of

$1500 to the Child Find Video project of
Legion District C.
Twelve new members were added to the
nominal roll of Branch 109. These additions
include four Westminster veterans namley
I. Kelly, H. Corballis, W. Lane and R.
Thomas; Ordinary members R, Fitz-
patrick, J. Kysten, G. Moncrief and W.
Swift. H. Ashton and Associate members
W.J. Robb, R.W. Bugler and M.A. Cook.
The Branch poppy chairman, Howard
Carroll in his final report of the, 1986 Poppy
Campaign indicated a net profit of $5375 for
the poppy fund. The wreaths on the
Cenotaph for the month of January are plac-
ed courtesy of the Maple Leaf Chapter
I.O.D.E., the Golden Gate Club for Seniors
and the Town of Goderich.
The Branch Service Officer in his report
referred the membership to the article on
page 31 of the Legion Magazine.
The property chairman John A. , Mac-
Donald is to look further into the cost of
lighting the Legion parking lot. The en-

Comrade Ray Baker, in his report thank-
ed those members who assisted in the
distribution of Christmas gifts to the
veterans' widows and he gave a final swri-
mary of the activities .of the Sick and
Welfare committee for the year 1986.
Four Branch bowling teams will traN el to '
Seaforth on Jan. 17. A District Mixed Curl-
ing Tournament will be held in Durham on
Feb. 7. Also nn this date, the Earls Court
Eut hre tournament will be held at the
Branch in the Vimy Lounge.
The Branch Entertainment chairman,
pick Eisler, thanked all the members who
assisted during the Christmas and New
Year activities at the Branch and he
reminded the membership of the Robbie
Burns night to be held at the Branch on Jan.
24.
The next Executive meeting will be held
oh Jan. 27 and the next general .meeting of
the Branch will be held on Tuesday
February :3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jubilee room.
