1S YRS. EXPERIENCE

The sailboat,' Wanderer, is •reflected off the still water of Snug Harbour as a weak winter sun
attemtps to poke through the clouds. While the closing days of December 1986 and the first
few days of January were rather dull, warm temperatures have more than made up for
cloudy days. The weekend brought sunshine and warm temperatures to the area and many
residents enjoyed a myriad of outdoor activities. (photo by Dave Sykes)

Mtrphy's Iia invades Martha's life
I hope everyone had L a wonderful
Christmas and. New Year. I wish you good
health,' good friends and few worries.
Make the most of each day -they pass..
quickly.
I am having the usual, routine settling' in
pooblems like going to the store. No pro-
blem, really, you just go this••way or that
and take a minute to straighten out your
route.
The stores are located on severalblocks
in either direction. I'm not getting lost,
just confused for a few minutes. I soon 'find
the stores and am amazed, like at home,
,how many changes have taken place.
On my first day in Sarasota, I lugged in
tlfie baggage, piled it on the bedand headed
Tor the store. •Every year, going to the
atone isa real adventure after six months
away. 'I'm always surprised at the price
differences between here and there but I
find most things cheaper- in Canada.
I headed back with my parcels ir) the old
Green Hornet that made Such a racket it
sounded as if the muffler had fallen off.
The next morning I looked fnr Flm'r.
the good car mechanic who has handled all
my car problems for many years. I set out
to find him and had t0 wait when he wasn't
, in. He suggested I get the muffler fixed at
Mufflerman which was across Sarasota.
I spent another couple hours Minting for -.;
them. I had lunch, looked again and head-
ed
eaded home. When 'I got there, I saw several
young men chucking chunks of my nice
tree into their truck.
What .a shock: The''tree, a beautiful
shiny, leaf tree with a flowering vine, was
something everyone stopped to gaze at.'"I
thought they' Were just trimming it," Walt
whined.
I had fought for that tree the minute we
bought the place. They wanted -it cut down
because,it took up space above the patio
and was dirty. I threatened them not to
touch it but I found out later the roots were
giving them trouble 'and since I wasn't
-there, it was cut.
•You wouldn't have believed my .anger.
How could anyone believe they were just
trimming the tree when they had to cut

Well, you must know how I felt,, going
through an entire Murphy's Law day. I had
to laugh awe of the crazy things. that.
had happened and now this was the climaz
and I wasn't laughing. Y,wept. •
They showed me a, list•of trees they were
to' take care of and there was a question
mark beside mine. So, I yelled at them for
that but Walt' had told them to go ahead, so
that didn't help.
I hope' the New Year ,has no repeats.
That was my first big encounter with Mur-
phy's Law ;and' I hope it is the last. I. won't
forget it. '
I, hope no-one ever goes through such a
frustrating,, hopeless day as this -ever. My
blood pressure is still up but I'm trying to
forget the whole thing. •
To the guys and -gals at Suncoast, good
luck:' I. hope to be more cheerful later. but,
for now, I just had to talk to someone.
Love you 'all,
Martha
