TO PASS AN EGG INTO A BOTTLS
For this experiment steep an egg ite
strong vinegar or acetic acid tor about
twenty-four hours, which will make
the shell soft and pliable. Show your
audience a real egg, and taking it tc
the table exchange it for the soft one,
and showing a glass bottle, inform
your audience you will pass it througb
the neck inside the bottle. You will
find it a very easy Matter to do this,
end when inside show It to your and!.
ence; and now saying you will take it
out, hold the neck of the bottle down-
wards over a goblet half filled witb
water, and gently knocking the bottle
the egg will fall through into the gob-
let, and upon going Into the water will
resume its former hardness. This is a
;ood trick if carefully performed.

The olcl-fashioned bake -oven was the best our great grand-
mothers° could get. They baked in it in a kind of a way and
were satisfied with it because they knew nothing better. But
the rnociern hotleewife wastes time and good food when she
fails to avail herself of the improvements of the
Imperial Oxford Range
No other range on the market can do the baking this oven
does. The oven is kept evenly supplied with fresh super-
heated air all the time.

Tnion Pacific Absorbs the Chicago
Great Western.
The Chicago Post says ;-The re-
port ehat the Union Pacific has
purchaeed ithe Chicago Great Wes-
tern road was reiterated with such
positiveness and circumstantial
evidence in its favor that it
receives general acceptance. The
deal, which has been opened for some
time, was said to have been closed,
and. theet-deal-go Great 'Western will
shortly lose its identity as an inde-
pendent road, and either be wholly -
absorbed by the Union Pacific it-
self or distributed piece meal among
the eastern connections of that sys-
tem. One report has it that the
Chicago Great Western will be di-
vided between the Chicago So North-
Western and the Milwaukee and St.
Paul ;systems, both of which have
Lor several years been close connec-
tions of the Union Pacific, There
is another view of the case, however,
which is ehet the Union Pacific Will
keep the Maple Leaf and operate it
as elle eastern end of its own sentem.
It will it is declaredgive the Union
Pacific a very good outlet from Om-
aha to Chicago, and the short line
from Omaha to St. Paul.
