Foresters' Picnic'
The I. 0. F. have a Big Day at Grand
Bend
On Wednesday of last Week the
members of t Independent Order
of Foresters and their friends, with
the lodges from Dashwood and Credi
ton held their annual picnic at
Grand Bend. Although •somewhat
threatening, the weather cleared anti
the day was ,delightfully spent by
the Large , number present. The
day's proceedings began promptly at
one o'clock, when the speakers, seat-
ed in .a carriage were drawn by a
a number of Foresters, from in front
of the dining hall to the recreation
grounds, headed by the Crediton
brass band and marshalled by J, 0.
Young, of Crediton. ' Bros. 11. Eil-
ber, M. P. P. was chosen as chair-
man, and after a short address in-
troduced B. D. Cameron, lt. V. C. R.
of Lucknow, who in a very able
manner; gave a talk an Forestry,
speaking for about an hour. After
the address, 13ro. Either, who had to
drive with Mr. Cameron to catch
the train, retired from the chair
which was then taken by Bro. 3. G.
Stanbury, of Exeter, who acted as
chairman for the balance of the
program and who in a very happy
manner introduced the next speak-
er Rev. Alex. McGillivray, svho
spoke for about an hour and a half
in the most thorough manner, in-
troducing facts and figures which
were listened to by the large crowd
with great[: interest. Bra J. G.
Stanbury, then after a short speech
called on the base ball match which
was' captained by Mr. Wurnu, of Cr
editon and E. Hawkshaw, of Exeter.
after playing five innings Bro. Geo.
E. Anderson, who umpired the game,
declared Fred Uawkshaw's team
the winner of the game and prize.
And then for two hours the big
program of sports was keenly fought
some having to be tried the second
time to decide upon the winner. The
last game was a foot ball match,
sides chosen by Richard. Hunter, jr.,
and twelve Foresters chosen by Geo.
E. Anderson. The game was won
by the Foresters by a score of 2-1.
The day's outing was very faith-
fully looked, after throughout by
Bro. Geo. Anderson, of Exeter, to
whom much of ,the success of - the
entertainment is due.
