ly left for London, being able to catch
the tram going south which happened
to he some three hours late. Miss
Avrostrong had been in the city for
several days and was staying with her
uncle Mr. trrank Friend, of 302 Fforton
st., being engaged for a time as mil-
liner with Clarke & Wood ot that city.
It was while on her way to work that
the accident took place. When reach-
ing Clerence street crossing she found
tbe gate down and a switch engine
and ten or twelve cars on the fifth
track. Apparentl3. the unfortunate
young woman was in too moth of a
hurry to wait for the gates to be
lifted. for she started to walk west-
ward between the tracks, so as to get
around the moving train.
When about two car lengths west
of the crossing she slipped on the ice
between the tracks and fele with her
right leg beneath the moving freight
cars. Before she could get to her feet
the wheels were upon her andehe was
dragged westward seven or eight feet

The statement made 'officially of
the accident is to the effect that it
occurred at 9 40 o'clock, Extra freight
withengine No. 719, going east was
pasaing through the yard in front of
th, station on the main line (the

theory of the railroad authorities is
that Miss Armstrong was walking be-

After being lifted from the track
