Danica Fogarty may only be four months old, but she too was invited to sit on Santa's
knee when he visited the Bayfield pre-schoolers on December 17. Santa's visit was one of
the highlights of the school's Christmas party. (Anne Chisholm photo)
Sunday school puts on Christmas pageant;
By Blanche Deeves
MIDDLETON - At St. James' Church Mid-
dleton Church on December 20, the Sunday
School children, under the direction of
Doreen Welsh, put on a beautiful pageant.
Rev. Aubrey Bell welcomed everyone to
the service with the Sunday School special
rendition of the Christmas story.
Upon singing the carol, Away in a
Manger, the children came into the church.
John Van der Haar led the procession being
the crucifer. All the the children took their
place near the wigwam. Bill Stacey lit the
four candles on the Advent Wreath. The In-
troduction was read by Angel Van der Haar.
There have been many retellings of the
first Christmas Story as we know it in Scrip-
ture. Every culture has their interpretation
of the story. The story is retold to help peo-
ple understand its meaning. For many peo-
ple, a shepherd, sheep, donkeys, etc. would
have no meaning.
Our retelling of the story is based on the
Christmas Carol, Twas in the moon of
Wintertime. It was written by St. Jean de
Brebeuf, a missionary among the Huron In -
what
(Hans in the 1600s to explain Christmas to the
Indians with whom he worked. Holly Reder
was the little Angel and Derek Taylor. Other
children's names taking part were Mary -
Jenny Miller, Joseph was Adam Reder and
Amy Welsh was a rabbit. Hunters were
Aaron Welsh, Doug Van der Haar, Carly
Hammell, Bradely Van der Haar. The chiefs
were John Van der Haar of the Huron Tribe,
Conrad Schilbe of the Cree Tribe, Murray
Hammell of the Oneida Tribe, Carrie Ham-
mell of Algonquin Tribe. Maidens were
Shannon Schilbe, Julie Miller, Shelley
Reder. Lisa Stacey read a pray. (Do hope no
children's names were missed). Middleton
Sunday School Superintendent along with
the teachers who are Doreen Welsh, Pat
Reder, Anita Van der Haar, Bev Schilbe,
certainly deserve a lot of credit and ap-
plause for the great work, costume making
and preparing this pageant. It was perfect.
Following the pageant everyone was in-
vited to the church hall for lunch. Rev. Bell
said the grace and everyone enjoyed sand-
wiches provided by the ladies of the church
and cookies were supplied by the teacher.
Everyone was sitting and chatting *lien
all of a sudden there was a knock on the dd i3Or
and in came Santa with his bag of
which he gave to the children along
bag of candy and wishing everyone a ite1Cy
Merry Christmas and then was on his WO.

Personals
Jean and Clarence Perdue, Edward and
Blanche Deeves were out Sunday evening to
celebrate their anniversaries at Blyth. After
dinner, they travelled to Goderich, Bayfield,
Varna, Seaforth and back to Clinton, the
lights were all beautiful, but they think their
own Town of Clinton had the best lights.
At this time I would like to wish everyone
a Blessed Christmas and a very Happy New
Year. I would like to give the same
greetings to all who went on bus trips
came out of a Lioness' meeting
Twas the night before Christmas
And all thro our Bayfield Town
Not a Lion or a Lioness was stirring
Not even Lioness Fisher in her purple
nightgown
The lovely new decorations hung on the
main street light poles with care
In hope that come Christmas Day they
would still be on and there
Presidents Kathleen and John had just set-
tled down in the sack
While a few of the Lions were still enjoying
a nightcap.
Lioness Vera Gregg in her cozy abode
dreamed of sitting on Santa's lap.
Others in the Club had left for the south to
beat the cold snap
When out in Clan Gregor Square there
arose such a clatter
The Siertsemas sprang from their bed to
see what was the matter.
Away to the window Lion Joe Brandon flew
like a flash
Tripped on Alice's curling broom and fell
on his behind.
The roaring of tourists to the village, in
their snowmobiles below
Making ruts in Clan Gregor thro the new
fallen snow.
When what to all their wondering eyes
should appear.
But a sleigh containing the village's Cable
T.V.
With a noisy old driver so boisterous and
quick
They all knew it was Reeve Johnston im-
itating St. Nick
More rapid than the sailboats from the
marina they came
And he whistled and shouted and called

From Clan Gregor Square down to Pioneer
Park
With our cable T.V. there'll be no more
movies in the dark.
As the dry leaves in the park like a wild
hurricane fly
When they meet at the Cairn piled to the
sky.
So up to the Council Chambers the cour-
tage flew
With a sleigh full of cables and lots of pro-
mises too
Now won't it be grand when our cables
installed,
But what happens 'our Bingo's on Fri.
nites when they're called
By our endeavours to our Clubs we are
bound.
And to Keep our Bayfield happy, busy and
sound.
We all really enjoy whatever our Clubs are
involved
And there's many a project and cam-
paigns been solved
By the giving of help whether its labour,
money or time
And how we enjoy when we all gather to sit
down and dine
'In the past year some new members we've
gained
Harriet, Smith Wilson and Tonkes to the
list are named
Now\ if the Lioness can just get Dorothy
Wilson to call
Perhaps we can all work together and save
the town hall.
The Lions have now forty years under
their belts
To their charter members much admira-
tion is felt.
If the Lioness Club can hang in that long
Just look at all the things we can do for the
town.
We all know the village admires our deeds
And old Santa alias Johnsto was first to
concede
As he counted up all the goodie he clubs
had achieved.
What a list he exclaimed as into the sleigh
he heaved
He sprang to the sleigh, to the council gave
a whistle
And out 21 Highway they flew like the
down of a thistle
But we heard them exclaim as they drove
out of sight
Keep up the good work Bayfield Lions and
Lioness, Happy Christmas and to all a
Good Night.
Throughout the year it hos been our
pleasure tc, assist in helping to improve
your homes. Our many thanks for your
very valued patronage.
