Darryl Bromley scores five for Blyth
By Kathy Bromley
Blyth Tykes met in the arena early
Saturday morning, December 12, at 9 a.m.
as they played host to Wingham, under the
supervision of coach, Barry Bromley.
Within the first minute of play, Wingham
broke loose on a breakaway, but Michael
Haggitt was ready and waiting to stop the
puck.
Although Blyth made attempts,
Wingham was also ready. Darryl Bromley
proved his hard work paid off, as two goals
were scored, within 25 seconds. Amanda
Anderson assisted him for the first goal,
but, the second goal was unassisted.
As if that was not enough, his next goal
was handled perfectly. Even though,
Wingham's goaltender was able to keep
the first attempt out, Darryl skated behind
the net, and came out to capture the puck
again, only this time, he made sure it went
where he had intended for it to go in the
first place. This was his third goal, not to
mention all of this occurred in two minutes
of play.
As the line changed, it gave a rest that
was earned. Again, Haggitt handled the
puck like a pro, when attempts were made
to put Wingham on the board. The
Wingham goaltender was also displaying
his talents, as Corey Sharman made a
beautiful breakaway. The puck did not
make its way into the net, though.
Lots of hard skating was shown, also by
the Blyth goaltender. As play had a
tendency to remain in Wingham's end,
Michael had to skate around at net to keep
warm!
Again, Bromley displayed complete con-
trol of the puck, as he added two mor,
goals in his favor. Chris Carter assisted his
fourth goal, while the fifth goal was
unassisted again. Darryl had a hat -trick in
unassisted goals alone, with five goals
altogether, to put the Tykes ahead 5-0 ear-
ly in the game.
After that, his teammates worked hard
too, as Michael Courtney was helped by
Corey Sharman, to put one more on the
board.
Even though the Tykes were in red
shirts, while Wingham was in yellow, and
took precautions, Blyth did everything but
stop!
Courtney then aided Amanda Anderson
who worked hard, to put Blyth. ahead, 7-0,
for a few minutes. Michael then went down
the ice and placed the puck nicely,
unassisted. Amanda and Michael did it
again as she earned her second goal of the
day, just as Michael had done earlier.
Haggitt played well in net, as only one
goal went past him. Blyth defeated
Wingham by a 9-1 score.
They travel to Godepich on December 19
for a 6 p.m. game.
Bulldogs Defeat Clinton
On December 12, the Blyth Novice
Bulldogs travelled to Clinton to play their
hardest game and regain a win to their
credit against Clinton.
Clinton displayed a very strong team, as
they opened the books within the first
minute of play.
Even though the Bulldogs had numerous
breakaways, the Clinton goaltender was
able to control the puck. Clinton returned
to get another goal, with four minutes re-
maining in the first period.
Obviously, the Bulldogs made it a com-
mittment to get a goal before the period
ended. With only 27 seconds remaining in
the first, Brent Robinson, with the aid of
Chad Haggitt, finished the period with a 2-1
score in favor of Clinton.
In the second period, both teams
demonstrated their strength. Exciting
play was held in both ends. Five seconds
short of three minutes remaining in the se-
cond period, the Bulldogs proved their con-
stant attempts paid off, for Brent now had
his second goal of the day, with Jason
Rutledge assisting him. The Bulldogs had
now caught up to Clinton.
One minute later, though, Darryl
