David and Nancy Anstett (left) presented gold watches to the second draw winners of the Anstett Mixed Curling Spiel, held at the Vanastra Curling Club on November 28. Winning the watches for their second draw victories were (right to left) Harold Smith, Mary Smith, Marlene Munn and Bill Munn. Seven areas represented in local curlingbonspiel Vanastra with Les Coleman, Claire Cox and Don Lindsay. Second place: Jerry Walter's rink from Seaforth with Don Tremeer, Laurie Fisher and Steve Rowatt. Third place: Brent Van Pary's, Matt Smith, Jim McNally and Terry Kemp from Norwich. Fourth place: Won by Brian Tone's rink from Durham. Gerry Uniac skipped the winning consolation rink. Winners of the 50/50 draws were John Ginn from Goderich and Brent Van Pary from Norwich. A heartfelt thanks is extended to Haugh Tire for sponsoring this spiel, to Doris Cantelon and Margaret Barker and their helpers for the "terrific meals" (voice of a curler) served, and to all who helped in the preparation of this excellent spiel. All successful curlers returned home with turkeys or hams. What could be more appropriate at this holiday season? Visiting teams from Seaforth, Goderich, Mitchell, Norwich, Durham and Woodstock participated with Vanastra rinks at the Haugh Tire Men's Open Bonspiel held at the Vanastra Curling Club on December 12. After the completion of three games the following were the results: First draw First place: Bill Gibson's rink of Brian Falconer. Mark Cantelon, and Brad Falconer from Vanastra. Second place: Cam Bogie's rink from Goderich with Bill Brock, Roger Moore and Bill Kuran. Third place: Bert Barker's rink from Vanastra with Brian Hall, Jeff Hietkamp and Harry Jansen. Fourth place: Winner was Don Cook's rink from Goderich. Laird Finlayson's rink captured the con- solation prize. This year, in the recent Ontario -wide O. C. N.A. (Ontario Community Newspaper Association) Advertising Award Competition, the Clinton News -Record placed third out of twenty-one newspapers in its circulation group, as well as placing third for the Premier Award (open to every newspaper in Ontario, regardless of size) for Best Food Store Layout. In first place was an entry from the Mount Forest Confederate, Mount Forest; second place was an entry from the Lincoln Post - Express in the Niagara Peninsula.
