LONDESBORO - The Burns UCW meeting
was held on December 2 with 20 members
present.
As it was a Christmas meeting, the group
met at the home of Clara Riley and then
went to the Hill Crest Restaurant for a
turkey dinner with all the trimmings. It was
served by the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Brunkard.
Following dinner, the group went back to
Clara Riley's for their meeting.
Beth Knox was in charge of the meeting
and she opened it with a poem. Kay Konar-
ski then gave a Christmas story, and this
was followed by the Christmas message
from Rev. Snihur.
Mrs. Rice then took over and roll call was
answered. The minutes of the last meeting
and the treasurer's report were given by
Margaret Taylor.
It wwas pointed out that the memebers
should remember the shut-in. boxes.
Rev. Snihur closed the meeting with a
prayer, and an exchange of gifts followed.
Dave and Caron were presented with a
Christmas gift from the UCW.
Beth thanked Clara for having the
meeting and Dave and Caron thanked the
UCW for their gift.

Evening unit

BELGRAVE - The Christmas meeting of
the Evening Unit was held at the home of
Laura Johnston December 1 with 24 present.
During the business period it was decided
to give $500 to the general fund of the church
and purchase two crock pots for the kitchen.
The roll call was answered by a favorite
Christmas Carol. The Worship service and
program consisted of Christmas stories,
poems and carol singing.
The following is the slate of officers for
1988: leader - Dorothy Logan; assistant
leader - Mrs. George Procter; secretary -
Mrs. Norman Cook; assistant secretary -
Mrs. Gordon Bosman; treasurer - Mrs. Bert
Johnston; social committee - Annie Cook
and Mrs. Ross Anderson; community
friendship - Laura Johnston and pianist -
Mrs. George Johnston.
The meeting closed with the benediction
followed by lunch served by Mrs. Anderson
and Mrs. Johnston.
The executive of the Belgrave Branch of
the Bible Society wishes to thank all those
who helped in the recent canvass for funds.
The total collected this year was $986.50,
showing a slight increase over last year.
Weekly Euchre Results
Thirteen tables were in play at the weekly
eter visited on December 6 with Jack and
Helen Lee.
Laura Lyon entertained her family for
Christmas on November 29. Those present
included Edythe Beacom, Murray, Shirley,
Bradley and Deanna Lyon, Gort Collings,
Bert and Joanne Lyone, Wayne, Jane and
Justin Lyon, Ron, Kathy, Laura, Kerissa
and A.J. Moes, and Calvin and Cheryl
Bakelaar.
Congratulations to Myrna and Eric
Driscoll on the birth of their daughter,
Elizabeth Glenice Jean, born on December
.2. She is a sister for Mellisa and
Christopher.
Muriel and Patricia Millson of Woodstock
spent December 3 and 4 with Muriel's
mother, Dora Shobbrook, and with Tricia's
grandmother.
Explorers
The Explorers started their expedition on
December 3 by singing the Explorer song
and saying their purpose.
They then had a $9 collection. Happy Bir-
thday was sung for Linda Horbanik and
Lindsy Anderson.
For their craft they made Santa Claus and
Mrs. Claus and some reindeers for their
grandmothers.
As well as their craft they practiced for a
show they are putting on next Thursday for
their grandmothers.

Winners were: high lady - Mrs. Wilford
Caslick; low lady - Janice Coultes; novelty
lady - Pearl Shiell; lucky draw lady - Mrs.

Wilfred Walker and lucky draw man -
Robert Grasby.
There will be euchre again December 8
starting at 8 p.m.
ACW News
The December meeting of the Belgrave
ACW was held at the home of Olive Camp-
bell, opening with the meditation, read by
president, Nancy Jardin. The minutes of the
previous meeting were read and the
treasurer's report showed a profit of $392
from the recent bazaar.
The pot -luck supper and Christmas pro-
gram will be held on December 23 at the WI
Hall. A bale of four boxes have been shipped
to Rev. Jacob Winter at Kasabonika,
Christmas cards will be sent to the elderly
and shut-ins.
The election of officers resulted as
follows; president - Mrs. Clarke Johnston,
vice-president - Mrs. Robert Procter,
secretary - Mrs. Alex Nethery, treasurer -
Mrs. Harold Jardin.
United Church News
A large congregation attended the White
Gift Pageant service at the United Church
on December 6.
Greeting members to the church was Reg
Lawson, and the ushers were Tim Airdrie,
Richard Burgsma, Sara Lyons and Theresa
Knox.
Sunday School pupils filled the choir loft
and the juniors occupied the front seats.
Rev. Snihur welcomed all and gave the
call to worship along with the following an-
nouncements. The flowers on the memorian
stand were in memory of Harry Watkins
and John Turner. The service on this day
was conducted by Sunday School pupils and
prepared by their teachers. On December 13
the tree will be un -trimmed so that
members might put their pictures on it.
The junior choir sang two anthems with
Marsha Szusz as director and Deanna Lyon
as organist.
The white gifts were all brought to the
front and put in a white box. The collection
was also brought to the front.
Rev. Snihur gave a short meditation, and
he thanked all of the teachers and pupils.
Following the service on December 13 the
members will be sharing in their congrega-
tion Christmas pot -luck dinner. Everyone is
invited' to stay afterwards and enjoy this
special time of food, fellowship and games.

were given by Mrs. Clarke Johnston.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. George Mitchell of
Wingham held open house in the WI Hall,
December 6 in honor of their parents Mr.
and Mrs. Amos Smith who are celebrating
their 25th wedding anniversary.
Amos and Evelyn Smith operated the
general store and post office in Belgrave for
several years and now make their home in
Wingham.
Guests attended from: Toronto, London,
Brussels, Ethel, Cranbrook, Belgrave and
the Wingham area.
Special thanks to those who assisted at the
open house, Elizabeth Gower; Sharon
Darlow and Kathy Saunders.
Lisa Chapman of Bolton is visiting with
her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Edgar
Wightman.
Calvin -Brick United Church held their an-
nual pot -luck supper and Sunday School
Christmas entertainment on December 5 in
the Belgrave W.I. Hall. Carols were sung
with Mrs. George McGee at the piano.
The different classes of the Sunday School
put on their skits and plays and at the end
Santa arrived to distribute 54 candy bags to
the children.
dalton UCW celebrates 25 years
Sixty-two former members and Walton
United Church Women members gathered
in the basement of Duff's United Church,
December 2 to celebrate the 25th anniver-
sary of the United Church Women. Presi-
dent Marion Godkin gave a warm welcome
to everyone. Grace was sung then all en-
joyed a delicious smorgasborg.
The first President of 25 years Annie Reid
was honored with a birthday cake, as her
80th birthday came on that day, Dec. 2. Hap-
py Birthday was sung to her, along with
another member Melinda Johnson, who also
had a birthday that day.
A number of Christmas Carols were sung
through the service with Marie McGavin as
pianist. Prayer was said by Kathleen
Williamson. Helen Craig presented a
Christmas reading. Gloria Wilbee entertain-
ed with Christmas music accompanied with
her guitar. Scripture reading was given by
Helen Williamson and Margaret Craig.
Barb and Sarah Lamble sang several duets
accompanied by their mother, Bonnie at the
piano. The offering was received and
dedicated. Marilyn McDonald presented a
Christmas reading, Karen closed this por-
tion with prayer.
Marion Godkin took over for the business,
reading a Christmas Poem. Marilyn
McDonald read minutes of the last ex-
ecutive meeting and the treasurer's report
was given by Leona McDonald.
The nomination committee report was
given by Helen Craig and new programs
were later given out. Olene Dennis gave the
budget report.
Annie Reid spoke briefly on the past 25
years and of the U.C.W. when it was
organized. She then presented Leona with a
gift as treasurer for the past 25 years.
Marie McGavin presented Dorothy
McNichol with a gift as she has moved to
Seaforth. Not present were Mrs. Stevens
and Mrs. Hoegy who have moved to Blyth.
Leona McDonald presented Rev. Bonnie
Lamble with a gift of money, thanking her
for her leadership to the U.C.W. in the past
year.
Marion mentioned the beautiful plaque
that was on display with all the past -
Presidents' names on and gold bars to put
future presidents, also a book was made up
with all the past programs of the 25 years.
Coming announcements to keep in mind
are: the Sunday School Concert, December
13 and Christmas Eve Service, December 24
at 7:30 p.m.
Karen Hoegy reported for the Social
Functions that the Agriculture Society from
Brussels wanted a Roast Beef Dinner for
their annual meeting in Jan. It was moved
to do so with date to be decided later.
A tree will be be planted at the front corner
of the church in the spring to commemorate
the U.C.W. 25 years. Marion welcomed new

CHURCH NEWS
The White Gift Service was in the charge
of Rev. Bonnie Lamble Sunday morning at
Duff's United Church. Greeters were
Howard and Audrey Hackwell.
CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING
The Walton Area Sports Club met Wednes-
day evening in the Library, with a very poor
turn out of the community. Unless more in-
terest in helping the committee the local
ball park will not be able to continue. Joyce
Marcuccio replaced Bev. Stevenson.
LOCALS
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Marks, Brian and
Blaine attended the graduation service Sun-
day morning for Dwayne Pryce at Cavan
United Church, Winthrop. Later returned to
his parents home, Brian and Sharon Pryce
for a turkey dinner, his other grandparents
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pryce also were
present.
Annie Reid spent the weekend with Mr.
and Mrs. Bob Machan and family and Laura
Machan, Sarnia.
Mr. and Mrs. Clint Emmrich and family
entertained family members to a pre -
Christmas dinner on Sunday. Those present
were Paul and Florence O'Connor and
Terry; Walter and Jenny Hendriks and An-
drew; Ruthie Thamer and Richard Thamer,
all of Kitchener, Aaron Jantzi of Dublin;
John and Kim Thamer of London and Ruth
