By Kathy Bromley
The Blyth Novice Bulldogs have been
very busy throughout the last week. On
November 26, they hosted Milverton for
their home game.
Both teams displayed various abilities in
skating and puck handling. Although
Jason McDougall injured his leg, it did not
hold hirn back. He was able to return to the
ice shortly afterwards.
The Bulldogs earned a tie with Milver-
ton, with a 3-3 final score. This was an ex-
cellent chance to get everyone prepared
for a weekend tournament to be held in
Seaforth.
Novice Tournament
On November 27, the Bulldogs met their
first competitors, from New Hamburg.
This was their first official game of the
tournament.
New Hamburg opened their book with
two goals in the first seven minutes of
play. The Bulldogs then came to life as
Jason Rutledge scored only 34 seconds
later, earning an unassisted goal. After he
slammed the puck into the net, he wiped
out and went into the boards. Fortunately,
he was not injured.
In the second period, New Hamburg con-
tinued to test Chris Bromley's alertness.
Although he was able to stop the puck
many times, it finally went in on a
rebound.
Five minutes later, Brad Anderson had a
three -on -one attempt, unfortunately, New
Hamburg gained possession of the puck
and added one more goal to their credit.
The Blyth Bulldogs did not give up
though. With only 38 seconds remaining in
the second period, Chad Haggitt had the
help of Jason Rutledge and Chris Stewart,
to earn Chad's third goal of the season.
Although it was 4-2 going into the third
period, the Bulldogs continued to work
hard. The Bulldogs' mothers were full of
excitement and continously stood up to
cheer them on. Then, just as the whistle
was blown, everyone took advantage of it
to sit down for a few seconds and catch
their breath - until play resumed again. No
doubt, some onlookers assumed we were
imitating spectators at Blue Jay's games
and had our own wave going!
The puck was dropped and we were go-
ing strong again, as New Hamburg tried
numerous times to score again. Finally,
their last goal was earned under the five
minute mark. The final score was 5-2,
although it could have been worse, as New
Hamburg had many attempts that were
right on the net.
Consolation Round
Blyth Bulldogs were now going for con-
solation winner for the "B" Division. Chad
Haggitt was the lucky winner of the draw
allowing him to enjoy a free submarine
and drink at the Pizza Train. Everyone
went home to prepare and get rested up for
Saturday's game.
Prior to the Bulldogs' game with Milver-
ton on Saturday, parents watched an ex-
ceptionally talented game with Sarnia
against Bramalea. They were in the "A"
division. With only eight seconds remain-
ing in the game Sarnia placed the puck in
Bramalea's net. Unfortunately for Sarnia,
though, the puck hit the centre rod in the
net and quickly bounced back onto the ice.
The referee called it "No goal". As we
stood and watched this from behind the
net, we were upset to see such a call being
made. Sarnia went on to try and earn the
consolation round.

After getting warmed up by watching
Sarnia's game, the Bulldogs' cheering sec-
tion was all wound up and ready to go,
even though their game was running half
an hour later than scheduled.
The Bulldogs faced Milverton for the
third time in the last week. Althugh Blyth
defeated them in the first game, the teams
played to a 3-3 tie Thursday night. Now it
was a matter to see who would go on and
compete for the consolation prize.
Both teams made many attempts and
tested the goalies. Milverton went ahead
with less than two minutes remaining.
Chris kept the puck from crossing his line,
but Milverton put the rebound in. It was
now 1-0 for Milverton.
It was obviously "Bulldog see, Bulldog
Do", as Chris Stewart evened everything
up again, with the strong help of Jason
McDougall and Jason Rutledge. The first
period ended with a 1-1 tie.
Although Milverton had opened the
books, Chris kept alert and did not allow
any more shots to get past him.
Again, Chad Haggitt attempted to break
the tie, but, although the puck hit the
goalie's helmet when he was down, the
puck remained outside the net.
The Bulldogs later received their first
penalty of the game, with Fred Datema
getting two minute rest for interference,
giving Milverton a man advantage.
The Bulldogs handled the puck very
well, even though they were killing a
penalty. Chris Stewart tucked it in nicely
to earn a shorthanded goal. Jason
Rutledge gained another assist to his
credit.
The remaining five minutes kept both
goalies wide awake. The Bulldogs went in-
to the third with a 2-1 lead. For insurance,
though, Chris Stewart earned another
goal, after only 22 seconds of play. Chris
worked hard for the hat trick he now had.
With only one goal in their favor, Milver-
ton tried hard to change the score and
close the gap. Bromley's stick was knock-
ed down, but he remained ready for the
puck that was still in play. Finally, Chris
held onto the puck, but the whistle was
already blowing. Wes Wilson had been
slashed, therefore Milverton had to sit out
for a two minute penalty.
Both Milverton and Blyth played hard
and the final score was 3-1 in favor of the
Bulldogs. They now advanced to the finals
for the consolation, being held Sunday at
12:30 in Seaforth.
Everyone on the Bulldog's team were
then given hot dogs and drinks, com-
pliments of the Seaforth Hockey League.
Brad Anderson received a certificate from
Pizza Train, for Saturday's draw.
Bulldogs champs
The Bulldogs' consolation finals game
was being sponsored byCanadian Tire.
With the continuous strong playing
displayed by the Bulldogs over the last two
night, I had assurned the Bulldogs would
be getting tired, but they proved to me that
"the strong get stronger".
During the game against Plattsville,
both teams were bound to open their
books, but both goalies kept the puck out.
After the first minute of play, Brad
Anderson had a breakaway and skated
hard to get to Plattsville's net. Brad's shot
was only a hair off the net.
Everyone continued to test the goalies
and Chad Haggitt was no exception. After
