UCW elects new slate of officers

BELGRAVE - The general meeting of the
Belgrave UCW was held on November 26 in
the Sunday School room. President, Mrs.
Harold Vincent, conducted the business.
Donations of $25 each were made to Fami-
ly and Children Services, Survival Through
Friendship House, the United Church
Resource Centre, Alma College, Seeds for
Zaire and Medical Electives, the latter two
both projects of the UCW. The sum of $100
was to be sent to the World Development
and Relief Fund of the United Church.
Year end reports were given and the
nominating committee presented the follow-
ing slate of officers for 19$8: past president -
Mrs. Harold Vincent; president - Mrs. Ross
Higgins; first vice-president - position not
filled; second vice-president - Mrs. James
Hunter; treasurer - Mrs. Leslie Shaw;
stewardship and finance - Florence
McArter; secretary and communications -
Mrs. James Hunter; assistant secretary -
Mrs. Ross Anderson; church in society -
Mrs. Robert Grasby, Mrs. Mel Mathers;

The worship service with Advent as the
theme was conducted by Olive Bolt and
Mabel Wheeler. A presentation of the 14
symbols of Advent was given.
Pamela Shaw sang two Christmas solos. A
stewardship program consisted of a
filmstrip followed by discussion and the
reading of an article by Mrs. Harold
Vincent.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and
Erin of Ilderton spent the weekend with
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby
and Laura Johnston.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse visited on
Thursday with Agnes Walker of Goderich.
Bert Johnston is a patient in University
Hospital, London.
Michael Mali of Holyrood returned to his
home this past week after being a patient in
Westminster Children's Hospital, London,
for two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Taylor of Belgrave are his grandparents.
Following the baptism of Amy Alisha
Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cook,
at Knox United Church, Belgrave, on
November 15, a dinner was held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cook.
Special guests were Mrs. Joe Dunbar,
great grandmother and Kenneth Davis,
great grandfather; grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Norman Cook and Mr. and Mrs.
William Coultes.
Other family members visited in the
afternoon.
Euchre Results
Eight tables were in play at the weekly
euchre which was held in the WI Hall on
November 25.
Winners were: high lady - Mrs. George
Drehmann; novelty lady - Mrs. Stanley
Black; low lady - Iona McLean; high man -
Albert Cook; novelty man - Edgar
Wightman and low man - George
Drehmann.
There will be euchre again December 2
starting at 8 p.m.

Benediction and response. Next Sunday's
service will be early Hymn Sing and people
are asked to bring their Christmas orna-
ment for your family to be placed on the tree
during the service.
Auburn UCW
The general meeting of the Auburn UCW
was held at the church on November 25 at 8
p.m. Mrs. Jack Middelkamp opened the
meeting.
Mrs. Barry Millian gave the meditation on
"Trees" and how they remind us of God.
She spoke on various trees which grow and
produce fruit according to God's plan. A
Christian also by word and work and bear
fruit in their daily use.
Scripture from Galations 5 was read by
Mrs. Middelkamp and an appropriate
reading given. Various tropical fruits,
mangoes and papayas and Sharon fruit
were shown and a poster of an evergreen
tree was displayed and decorated woth
peace, joy, faith, etc. The story of the origin
of Christmas tree in 1000 AD was given and
the lovely hymn "0 Christmas Tree" was
sung. Mrs. Middelkamp closed the worship
with prayer.
Mrs. Dana Bean conducted the business
opening with a reading. The secretary and
treasurer's reports were given. Mrs. Bean
gave the report on the previous votes - there
will be only one unit in 1988. Until the end of
the year, Church cleaning remains the
same. Four Poinsettias are to be purchased
for the church. The executive will be in
charge of the Christmas dinner on Dec. 16 at
12 noon. Bring your husband or guest. Meat
will be purchased and potatoes supplied
with the remaining foods to be potlock. The
collection will be a gift to the Canadian
Blind Missions. The conveners of the
various groups gave their yearly reports.
Mrs. Bean gavee' list of officers
nominated for the election and Mrs. Jack
Armstrong declared the first officers
elected. Mrs. Dana Bean gace the Benedic-
tion and lunch was served by Unit I and a
social time enjoyed.
Silver Tops
The Auburn Silver Tops met on Wednes-
day November 18 beginning with a potluck
lunch at 12 noon.
Following the delicious meal, president
Kay Lapp conducted a short business
meeting. Elliott Lapp then showed a film
entitled "Christmas in Germany." Aubrey
Toll of RR 3 Blyth entertained with several
solos accompanied by his siters Marjorie
McDougall.
The afternon ended with a few tables of
cards and the next meeting will be in
January. Further notice of this meeting will
be forth coming.
