Area basketball season opens
On November 9 the,Goderich and Area
Basketball League opened -its season with
four of the five teams playing.
In the first game Farm Team defeated
Goderich Bait and Tackle by a score of
55-46.
Farm Team was led by John De Bruyn
who had 17 points and Gary Verhoog who
chipped in 15.
Warren Watt had 17 points, Andy Moore
12 and Mark Frayne 12 in a losing effort.
Many contribute
CLINTON - It has been a busy year for
the lawn bowlers here as they saw a new
club house erected.
In order for the new Clinton Lawn Bowl-
ing Club and Friendship Centre to be built,
money was raised by the bowlers through
a mini -lottery, but many contributions
were also made towards the new building.
Making donations to the building fund
were: J. and J. Pharmacy, A. J. Mat-
thews, K. G. Flett, Ray Gilders, Elliott
Lapp, George Wright, Walter Newcombe,
Della Slavin, Doug Ball, Frank Cumm-
ings, W. Grosch, Lois Haines, P--4 Gar-

CLINTON - The Clinton and District
Badminton Club had 30 competitors out for
their first competition of the year, the
Doubles Fun Tournament, on November
11.

Nancy Atkinson had a good day of bowl-
ing on November 10 as she had the high
single with 285 and the high triple at 685.
She also tied for the high average with
Helen Faber as both scored 200. The hid-
den score prizes donated by Dixie Lee
Chicken were won by Nancy Atkinson and
Hilda Semple.
Those ladies who bowled games over 200
included: Edith Burgess, 202; Lexie
Murch, 209; Tudy Wilson, 202, 227; Iva
Reid, 207, 237; Mert Elliott, 217; Pat
Taylor, 219, 219; Beulah Keys, 224; Nancy
Roy, 231; Bev Harris, 238; Shirley Fowles,

The ladies high single was won by Libby
Van Damme on November 5,with a score
of 263, while Suzie Dale had the high triple
at 600 and Nancy Atkinson had the high
average of 196. Howie Grealis had the high
single for the men with 317, while Bill Cof-
fill had the high triple at 740 and Doug
Buchanan had the high average of 225.

On November 12 Paul Brunkard had
both the high single and the high triple
with scores of 275 and 699 respectively,

Dorothy Carter had the high single for
the ladies on November 10 with 255 as well
as the high triple at 638, while Helen Hut-
chings had the high average of 203. In the
runner-up positions were Debbie Cuthill
with the high single of 246, Dorie Blake
with the high triple at 637 and Dorothy Air-
drie with the high average of 193. The most
improved bowler was Dorie Blake with
plus 17, and the runner-up was Dorothy
Salverda with plus 13.

In the second game of the evening Jeff
Welhaven had 23 points to lead Park House
to a 56-40 victory over the Clinton
Horsemen. Rick Wendler added 19 for
Parkhouse who led 26-24 at half time.
Jim Watt with 14 and Bill Tugwell with
13 were the top point getters for the Clinton
Horsemen.
If anyone is interested in playing recrea-
tional basketball in this league they should

and Ken Dunn.
The club meets every Wednesday night
at Central Huron Secondary School, and
they are always ready to welcome new
members.
For anyone interested in joining the cost
is $20 for a single person for the year, or
$25 for a married couple.

Brad Anderson worked hard for the power
play he, Jason McDougall and Mike Salver -
da made. This goal represented a hat trick
for Brad.
The game resulted in a 7-0 win for the
Bulldogs — their first win of the season.
With the great assistance of his teammates,
Chris Bromley earned his first shutout of the
year.
They travel to Milverton on November 20
for a 6:30 p.m. game.
Blyth Tykes defeated Hensall on Saturday
with a 4-2 score. Corey Shannon played net.
Keeping informed
On November 25, the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority (MVCA) will
publish the annual addition of the Valleys
and People newspaper, a report to area
residents on conservation activities in the
Maitland Valley. The newspaper will be
distributed through all weekly newspapers
in the Maitland Watershed.
"Valleys and People is designed to keep
everyone informed about the activities and
concerns of the conservation authority"
said Paul Weitendorf, MVCA Community
Relations Co-ordinator.
The newspaper contains articles on the
services offered to landowners through the
MVCA's Conservation Services Program
and updates on major capital projects such
as the Listowel Conduit Reconstruction and
Goderich Bluffs Stabilization Project. Also
included is a feature on Maitland Manure
Management Program and Joint Soil and
Water Conservation Program.
