Here, the 12 year old girls take off for their race. Students from nine schools participated in the event. They were from Seaforth Public, Huron Centennial Public School, Blyth Public, Clinton Public, Clinton and District Christian School, Walton, Vanastra, St. Joseph's Separate School, and home team, Hullett. The home team were the winners of the meet, and Huron Centennial came in second. (David Emslie photo) Midgets remain undefeated this season The Midget team from Clinton is off to a great start this season, posting five wins and two ties in their first seven games. Their roster has expanded this year from around 14 players last year to 19. The league they play in has also expand- ed. Although the team from Arthur drop- ped out this year, teams from Brussels, Zurich and Blyth have been added. Added to the teams from Seaforth, Mitchell and Milverton, Clinton is now playing in a seven team league. After going a little over .500 last season, the Midgets remain undefeated after over a quarter of the 24 game schedule has passed: They started off the season on October 19 with a 5-2 win over Blyth at home. The next day, they travelled to Seaforth, where they won 6-4. Their winning streak continued on Oc- tober 25 when they travelled to Hensall and beat the Zurich team 4-3. On October 26, though, they had to settle for a 4-4 tie when Seaforth was in town. It was back to the winning side on Oc- tober 28 when the Midgets defeated the home team Blyth 6-1. A 2-2 tie was the result of a home game against Mitchell on November 2, and later that week they defeated Zurich, in Zurich, 10-7. Mr. Duguay proposed in his weight train- ing program, "There's no need to be a hero with weights. The objective is not to lift as much as possible. The object is to get in shape. If you're training for fitness purposes you don't have to lift 200 pounds. Twenty or 30 pounds will do the job." tributing to the team's win. Their statistics are as follows: Player name Jeff Jewitt Mike Ladd Scott Brown Steve Vandendool Norris Flynn Jamie Gibbings Jason Cox Ian Koetsier Chris White Jason McLean Paul Wright Mike Corrie Rick Lobb David Jones G A 14 5 4 11 4 11 6 1 2 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 0 is fitness for the masses Still, it is the ability to lift hundreds of pounds of iron weights with one's -bare hands that is part of the attraction in weight training programs. It may sound impossi- ble. It may sound gruelling. It is not. "Some 3,000 to 5,000 pounds is the average amount that you push on a bench press work out. It's staggering the amount of weight you can press in one day," Mr. Duguay told the clinic participants. 1 3 1 2 2 2 1 1 0 0 1 And so, when the eight hour weight train- ing clinic ended, some 14 people headed home from the Vanastra Recreation Centre with a new concept in fitness training. They were tired, and their muscles ached, but they had a new, strange sense of satisfaction in knowing that they had lifted well upwards of 1,000 to 2,000 pounds each. They had met, overcome and, made friends with the illusive Universal Gym.
