Stonehouse BELGRAVE - A white cross adorned with scarlet poppies and flanked by Canadian and British flags and an oil portrait of Sir Winston Churchill complimented by a con- tainer of red carnations formed the centre piece on the communion table at Knox United Church on November 3. This served as a solemn reminder of lives sacrificed for our freedom and the debt of gratitude we owe. Rev. John G. Roberts conducted the ser- vice, using the order of service. Following the prayer, the congregation rose to observe a one minute silence in memory of the soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice. The choir sang the anthem with organ accompaniment. To conclude the service, Mr. Roberts read a letter written in Belgium by Sister Mary Josephine to the relatives of a deceased soldier. It enclosed his photo and details of the hero's death. He was only one of 100,000 such incidents. Potluck Supper The November meeting of the Evening Unit was held in the church school room with ladies from the Afternoon Unit as guests.
