Redmen go 50-50
in home tournament
On October 21 Central hosted their second
tournament of the regular season.
The Senior Redmen played two three -
game matches against Mitchell and South
Huron.
In their first match against the second
place Mitchell Blue Devils, the Senior
Redmen were on the top of their game winn-
ing the first game by a 15-9 score; narrowly
losing the second game by a 17-15 score, but
bouncing back to take the third game by a
15-7 score.
The Senior Redmen then took on the sixth
place South Huron Panthers. South Huron
produced a very good brand of volleyball
winning the first game by a narrow 15-13
score but totally dominating the second by a
15-3 score. The Redmen took the third game
by a 15-7 score.
This 3-3 split brought the record of the
Redmen to 16 wins and eight losses.
Later in the week, on October 24 the
C.H.S.S. Senior Boys Volleyball team
travelled to Mitchell to take part in the Mit-
chell Invitational Volleyball tournament.
Eight teams from various parts of
Western Ontario were in attendance and
each team played a round robin in one of two
pools with the winners playing off.
In their first match against College
Avenue from the Woodstock area, the Senior
Redmen won both games by 15-9 and 15-10
scores.
In their second match against a much
stronger Clarke Road Trojan team from
London, the Senior Redmen managed a
split, winning the first game by a 15-11 score
but dropping the second by a 15-9 score.
In their final match against Waterloo -
Oxford, the Senior Redmen again managed
a split winning the first game by a 15-12
score but dropping the second 15-7.
This placed the Redmen in the second
place in their pool and qualified them for the
semi-finals against the host Mitchell squad.
In the first semi-final, the Redmen dropped
a heartbreaker by a 16-14 score in one of the
best games of the season. However, the
Redmen were unable to bounce back from
that defeat and dropped the second game
rather easily by a 15-6 score.
The Senior Redmen travel to Wingham
this Thursday for their final regular tourna-
ment prior to the Huron -Perth Champion-
ships which they have qualified for already
for the second year in a row.

opening game of the season. They are spon-
sored by Sparlings, and are currents
deciding on a name for the team.
In the first period, both Sparlings and
Fleur ing Feed Mill made numerous at-
tempts, but the goalies were alert to eep
the puck from crossing the line. Fina
with less than four minutes remaining in the
first period, Chad Chipchase was assisted
by Jeff Lobb, to open the books for Clinton.
Blyth quickly came back though, to even
the scoreboard. The puck was taken from
their blue line by Jason McDougall, assisted
by Mike Salverda, and tucked into Flem -
ing's net.
An instant replay was then shown by
Jason Rutledge, who earned an unassisted
goal. Blyth led 2-1 at the end of the first
period.
As the second period got underway, F'lem-
ing's closed the gap. Darryll De Ruyter,
with the assistance of Stephen King, evened
it up again. Sparling's then came back to re-
tain their lead. Jason Rutledge assisted
Chris Stewart for a 3-2 lead for Blyth.
The scoreboard was evened up again, as
Chad Chipchase earned a shorthanded goal.
After that, Flemings never looked back,
even though Blyth made numerous attempts
on goal.
Flemings went on to win the game as
Stephen King, evened it up again. Sparling's
then came back to retain their lead. Jason
tutledge assisted Chris Stewart for a 3-2
lead for Blyth.
The scoreboard was evened up again, as
Chad C'hipchase earned a shorthanded goal.
After that, Flemings never looked back,
even though Blyth made numerous attempts
on goal.

unassisted.
