CDCS is off to a busy start
CLINTON - The first two months of school
at Clinton and District Christian School
have passed already. All of the classes Iiave
been busy with a variety of activities.
In September, Grades 2 and :3 attended
some educational programs at the
Wawanosh Nature Centre. It was a fine,
warm day and the programs were very
worthwhile.
In early October, Grade 4 spent several
hours at the CHSS pond, observing pond
structure and capturing animal specimens.
Back in the classroom, an aquarium was set
up to provide a new home for the snajls, tad-
poles, and water insects. Thanks go to Mrs.
Buffinga and Mrs. Pardys for accompany-
ing the class in spite of muddy conditions.
Both boys and girls teams participated in
the local elementary senior soccer tourna-
ment held at Huron Centennial School on Oc-
tober 6. The boys won four of their five
games; the girls won one out of four games.
Congratulations to all teams that played
their best.
()n October 9, the school held their annual
Thanksgiving assembly. The program was
presented by various classes performing
with poetry, readings and song. All students
brought food gifts which were packed into 13
boxes for distribution to local needy
families.
Interim reports were handed out on Oc-
tober 16. This first report on the work of the
students is a good way to determine pro-
gress being made quite early in the year.
Follow-up parent interviews are scheduled
for October 28.
Last Monday, October 19, Haitian mis-
sionaries, Mr. and Mrs. Vanderzaag, gave a
slide presentation of their work. Their pie-
, tun.es and. invade all. aware of
the need for compassionate help of trained
workers in the poor country of Haiti. Later
in the week, Grades 7 and 8 were given a
talk and chance for frank discussion on the
issue of abortion.
The teaching staff travelled to Hamilton
on October 22 and 23 to attend the Ontario
Christian School Teachers Association con-
vention, giving all students here a holiday
from school. The convention is two busy
days of addresses, workshops, book
displays, and fellowship with colleagues.

Open House
On October 22, St. Joseph's School held
their open house. Each teacher made two 10
minute presentations about new directions
in curriculum in their classroom. Parents
were able to attend two different
presentations.
During these presentations parents asked
questions about programs at the different
grade levels. The rest of the evening the
parents toured the school and visited with
the teachers and other parents.
St. Joseph's PTA provided refreshments
for the evening.
