Director of Education Bob Allan drew
trustees' attention to the fact that seven
senior level secondary students who re-
quired upgrading for a credit related to
graduation, attended the new tutorial pro-
gram at the Huron County Board of Educa-
tion's summer school in Clinton during July.
Six of these students completed the program
and have earned their credit.
He said the impetus for the program
which improves the school board's ability to
serve students in Huron who require addi-
tional instruction, came directly through
county trustees who asked for it.

ACW News
A reminder to the ACW of the St. James'
Middleton ladies that pennies must be in by
the end of October. Please give them to your
captain, Margaret Middleton or Delores
Dutot. Next meeting will be November 12
with a pot luck dinner at 6:30 p.m. in the
Parish Hall. Please bring two articles for
the fun auction up to $2 an article. Spouses
and friend are welcome.
Church calendars are available for 1988.
The cost is $3.
Confirmation classes are at the Rectory at
7:30 p.m. Only two more to go.
On October 22, there will be a joint board
meeting at St. James to plan out the
Bishop's day at Middleton on November 29.
The October meeting of the ACW was held
October 8 at 8 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
Audrey welcomed all to Hilda Bell's
Hallowe'en meeting. Many of the ladies
came dressed for this occasion.
Estelle Wise read the minutes of the last
meeting which were approved as read.
Thank yous were read from Brenda Clark,
Vera and Keith Miller. Adell Jervis and the
Clinton Public Hospital Auxiliary Lois Wise
gave the treasurer's report. Hilda Bell
reported on Regal Sales. Discussion was
held on the recent deli booth. Grace was said
in union.
Hilda Bell led in a fun program when a cat
game was played. Each lady was asked to
pin her name on the scarecrow. Adell Jervis
won this game. Each member also bobbed
for apples. Estelle Wise won again guessing
the number of candies in the jar.
A draw was held and winners were
Audrey Middleton and Bev Van Ninhueys.
Lunch was served and social time was
enjoyed.
Fall Hike
The Bannockburn hike was held Sunday
with over 200 people going on the walk. John
and Edward Deeves joined in the walk. Hot
apple cider was served on your return.
Personals
Edward and Blanche Deeves along with
Eliose and Keith Charlton and eight other
couples from Clinton enjoyed the
Thanksgiving weekend at the Grand Olde
Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.

nwall for Thanksgiving to visit their
daughter, Arlene, and son-in-law, Bill, and
Jonathan and Jason.
workshop teaches how
to childproof your home
Common household items, which are
often stored within easy reach of tiny
hands, are the most frequent causes of
poisonings in children under five years old.
Furniture polish, lighter fluid, household
cleaners, and shampoo are only a few of
the many poisons in your home. A "Safety
and Emergency Care for Young Children"
Workshop being sponsored by the Huron
County"Health Unit on Monday, November
9 at the Goderich Legion, will give you
some safety tips for "child -proofing" your
home. You can attend the workshop by
pre -registering with the Health Unit. Call
524-8301 before Nov. 2. Enrollment is
limited!
A "poison -proof" home will reduce the
chances of your child swallowing a poison.
Always keep poisonous substances well out
of the reach of children in a lo: ked cup-
board. Never underestimate a child's
ability to reach, climb, and open unlocked
cupboards. When you purchase drugs or
over-the-counter medications, ask your
pharmacist to use child -resistant con-
tainers. They do make a difference, but to
be even safer, store your medications in a
locked cupboard. Your workshop supplies,
such as paint and paint thinners, should
also be stored in a locked cupboard.
In spite of your efforts to protect your
child, accidents do happen! Be prepared
by knowing first aid and emergency care!
Information on how to treat the most com-
mon childhood emergencies will be
presented at the workshop. There will also
be opportunities to practice "hands-on"
treatment procedures. Reserve your spot
now by calling the Health Unit before
November 2nd.
