VANASTRA - On October 7 the Vanastra
Lions and Lioness held a joint dinner
meeting at the Vanastra Recreation Centre.
Governor Lion John Brash of Guelph was
,guest speaker for the evening. He was his
accompanied by two Lions from his own
club, also in attendance were four members
of the North Brantford Lions Club.
Lion John spoke on the objectives of
Lionism for the year 1987-1988. The motto
for this year is We Serve. He stressed that
Lions and Lioness not only serve in their
own communities but all over the world.
Lion John installed the new officers of the
Lions and Lioness club during his visit to the
club. The new executive for the Lions club
are President Lion Delmer Schloendorf,
Treasurer Lion Tony Jeacock and Secretary
Lion Roy Elliot.
The new executive of the Lioness club are
President Maureen Dunsmore, Vice -
President Marg Scloendorf, Treasurer
Dianne Ryan, Secreatry Linda Dixon, Tail
Twister June Jeacock and Director Darlene
Mylwick.
The raffle for the evening was a murn
decorated with a scarecrow. Lion Ramey of
North Brantford took home the prize.
Lion John received a ceramic ashtray,
made by Lioncss Marg, as a thank you gift
for visiting the clubs.
Lion John and Lion Jack Robertson of
North Brantford thanked Lion President Del
for an enjoyable evening.
Meet Your Neighbor
On October 22 the Vanastra Lions and
Lioness will be holding a Meet Your
Neighbor night. Everyone in the community
is welcome to join in an evening of fun and
friendship at the Vanstra Recreation Centre
at 7:30 p.m. Coffee, tea and snacks will be
served. This will give the new members of
the community a chance to meet and learn
more about their community.
Lioness News
The monthly business meeting was held
on October 19 at the home of Lioness Presi-
dent Maureen. .
Final plans for the ('hri.stmas Bazaar to
be held on November 21 were made. The
new venture for the club at the bazaar will
be a penny sale. Many donations have been
received for this sale.
The Lioness are also holding a New Year's
dance at the recreation centre. Music will be
supplied by P.R.S. disc jockey service.
Tickets for the event are available from any
Lioness member.
Three members of the club will travel to
Dorchester for their annual Pumpkin
Brunch on October 25 while two members
will attend the fall rally in Exeter on the
same day.
On November 5 the monthly dinner
meeting will be held at the Vanastra
Recreation Centre. Special guest for the
evening will be Lioness Janet Dawson of
Kitchener.
Public School News
The Vanastra Public School students held
their election for students council. The
president is Evelyn Edwards, vice-
president Sarah Trager and secretary -
treasurer Judy Elliot.
On October 22 the students from Grades 4
to 8 will travel to London to see a play called
Dracula.
On Friday several students from Grades 7
and 8, involved in the enrichment program
will travel to Stratford Festival to view the
play Much Ado About Nothing. Parents are
also reminded that Friday is a P.A. day.
Personals
Congratulations go out to John and Wendy
Snell on the birth of their son Curtis. He is a
baby brother for Kyle and Johnathon.
Former resident Debbie De Wolfe is back
from PEI visiting with her family and new
niece.
Father Coruana of St. James Church in
Seaforth, christened Courtney Elizabeth
daughter of Tom and Betty Costello of
Vanastra on Sunday. Courtney's christening
gown was made from her mother's wedding
dress. A family get together was held at
Tom and Betty's afterwards.
Get well wishes go out to Ev Garland who
is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London.
Baking session for residents
HURONVIEW - Sunday morning worship
was held in the chapel here with Rev.
Cheryl -Anne Stadelbaur Sampa conducting
the service. Margaret McQueen directed the
music.
Tuesday afternoon a baking session was
held 011 Huron Heights with the ladies taking
part.
A party for the ladies on Huron Heights
took place Wednesday afternoon.
Thursday the auditorium was busy all day
when Regional 3 of the Ontario Association
of Homes for the Aged held its first meeting
of the fall.
There was a good attendance and the ses-
sion,: were interestint1 and prodnr'tive
The girls have been busy decorating the
halls for Hallowe'en. The trick and treat day
is coming up soon.
Rev. John Pluta conducted Roman
Catholic Mass in the chapel Friday
morning.
Huronview welcomes Francis Dobson
who comes from Teeswater.
A birthday party was held for Flossie
Deaton who celebrated her 90th birthday on
Friday with family and residents wishing
her the best.
Bingo was held on Park Place on Friday
while other residents went on a shopping
trip to Goderich.
