What the Centre's all about
Although friendship and fellowship is
a major component of the Huron Day
Centre For the Homebound, there are
many other features which draw the
clients to the Centre located at Huron -
view, just outside Clinton.
The purpose of the Centre is to pro-
vide a place of social, educational and
recreational activity for people in
Huron County who are homebound by
reason of age and/or disability who
wish to retain the independence of their
own homes as an alternative to institu-
tional care.
Eligibility is based on the fact that
the participants are unable to leave
their own home without the assistance
of at least one person.
If the participant needs transporta-
tion, this is provided in the form of the
recently purchased mini -bus.
There are several activities for the
participants, or clients, to take part in.
These activities include crafts such as
macrame. rughooking, quilting. wood-
working, ceramics, knitting, painting,
gardening and baking.
Friendship
and fellowship

Games of euchre, chess, checkers,
scrabble, dominoes, white elephant
bingo, shuffleboard and darts are also
available.
Discussions on current issues and
concerns often led by community
resource persons such as lawyers,
nutritionists and medical personnel,
trips in the summer months and sing-
songs are group activities provided at
the Centre.
Under the special activities heading,
there is bowling, swimming. parties
and picnics.
For those who wish, they can get their
hair done in Huronview and footcare is
provided on a regular basis for those
who need it.
Every Wednesday, the St,foke
Recovery Club ventures to the
Vanastra pool and offers special
therapy, socialization and mutual
support.
For those who have a few problems
with daily living, such as pensions or
housing, counselling is also offered to
help solve these problems.
To enable the Huron Day Centre For
The Homebound to operate, the Ontario
Ministry of -Community and Social Ser-
vices and Huron County Council offer
financial assistance. As well, a client
fee is collected, providing a nutritious
noon meal, transportation and the ac-
tivity program. However, if there is a
need, this fee may be subsidized.
As well, some of the crafts made by
the clients are sold with the profits go-
ing back into the Centre.
Donations are also accepted.
