Although Jack Murch might look a bit shocked at hitting the water at the
Vanastra Community Centre, water therapy is a popular event for members of
the Stroke Recovery Club. Clients of the Huron Day Centre's club enjoy doing
their exercises in the water, as they are easier to complete than those carried
out on land. Helping Mr. Murch to get out of the lift are Henny Cyl and Hilda
Veenstra. (David Emslie photo)
Helping stroke victims recover
The Day Centre's Stroke Recovery
Club was started in September of 1978
a club for stroke victims.
The organization was set up with the
help ec Lisa Frayne, a physiotherapist,
ind occupational therapist Janet
Bauerman. Both are with Home Care.
To begin with. they set up a training
program for the staff and volunteers on
how to help those who have had a
stroke.
Clinton Public Hospital
physiotherapist Doralene Flowers then
volunteered her time once a week to
help with the exercise program.
This exercise program is now con-
ducted by activity director Nancy Wise.
