Imitating Squirrels Last week, we received notification from Shakespeare By Chrystal Cucksey BLYTH - Jeff Marontate, the education assistant with the Stratford Festival, visited Blyth Public School on September 24. He was telling the student about William Shakespeare and the Stratford Festival. In class, teacher Mrs. Hulley, is leading students through the play, Much Ado About Nothing. The students are also talking about • staging characters and 'costuming. Then 10 lucky students from Grade 7 and 8 will have the opportunity to watch the play and tour the Stratford Theatre. This exciting day will happen October 23. Hallowe'en Poster Contest By Block Parents Kimberley Ferguson and Tina Burkholder At Blyth Public School there is a the Ministry of Natural Resources they would be collecting walnuts again, a yearly event. They would be arriving sometime on Tuesday to pick them up in Hullet. The walnuts will then be implanted and new walnut trees sprout up later on: My cousin informed me, though, that this was a poor year for walnuts, as they were turning black before they fell from the tree, as opposed to turning color after they had fallen. Ap- parently, green walnuts are normally preferred. He then went on to say that he would appreciate any extra walnuts that we could gather. After spending all of Monday afternoon, and part of the evening, gathering eight 100 kg bag fulls, I soon paid for it. I couldn't help but wonder if my aching thighs were the result of what is commonly referred to as "Squatters Rights!" I am referring to a weekend holiday we enjoyed with three other couples from October 2-4, in Wheels Inn, Chatham. This is one location where everything can be en- joyed inside, without having to set foot out- side the door. I appreciated this holiday even more, when we returned home to find that wet snow had been experienced in some localities! • u z.;•. £ :' --- '• ; s e' MED C 2 - 1986 BONNEVILLE with air 1983 COUGAR LS 2 dour. air 1987 CHEV PICK UPAR-r i II i.. 1986 GMC '/t TON we% 1985 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE %kith air 1985 CHEVETTE, a1.r„11a0:. 1985 DODGE ARIES WAGON 1984 PONTIAC PARISIENNE 4 DR. Tennis, badminton, ping-pong, weights, squash, bowling... the list goes on for all of the events you could participate in. Of all the available. sports to take part in, bowling was at the top of the list. The obvious difference that I noticed here, as compared to what I am used to, was the weight of the bowling balls. These alleys weren't for five pin bowling, but rather, 10 pin bowling. Of course, five pin bowling was only a block away. Since we remained in Wheels Inn, the first thing I had to do was to choose the most comfortable weight ball to use. I chose the" ball that was eight pounds, the lightest bowl-, ing ball available for this game. My hus- band mentioned that he should have 'known that I would choose this particular one — after all, it was pink and that is one of my favorite colors (it blended in great with my pink jeans and pink top that I was wearing). With such weight for a big bowling ball, I found it to be very awkward. I am a two - pound weakling, but I was able to adjust to it. Intact 1 managed a strike in the first frame. That was as far as it went, though. It was no longer a game that went down alley, but rather it went down hill! The second game, I made up my mind... enough of this, let's get serious ( sounded good to me... maybe I was not concentrating enough 1. This game was completely another story. Instead of it being down hill, it seem- ed that I was now beginning up the other side. I ended up with the high score! I realiz- ed then that it wasn't a bad day for me after all. If there had been prizes like in euchre. I would have had my choice between prizes 'for either high or low scores! Unfortunately. for this enjoyment, I paid for it, as I seemed to be lobsided due to the weight of the bowl- ing ball. It was the perfect time for a massage, to ease your muscles and to relax. I quickly decided to put that on hold, though, as it was SAVE HUNDREDS... For a lady who lived in water, coming from Port Albert, I found the most relaxa- tion to be in the pools. The men made use of the slides that were available, but I prefer- red swimming and floating around, just as I did, some odd years ago. Whenever we entered the pool in the fitness grounds, we were fortunate to find it to be very quiet. The whirlpool, adjacent to the pool, was another type of relaxation again. I could go to sleep lh it! 'It Wad stressed though, that you could not remain in the whirlpool' for any longer than 15 minutes at a time, for your own safety. The temperature varied from 102 to 108 F. at all times! It was similar to being in a bath tub, only, bubbles were continuously gurgling, relaxing you even more. Afterwards, we could have went to the work-out room, in the fitness centre, dealing with weights. I quickly decided upon our ar- rival, though, that I had my share of weights, holding the heavy bowling ball l ac- tually, I don't think I could have lifted anything ). On Saturday evening, everyone enjoyed the entertainments supplied at Scooter's, situated across the highway from Wheels Inn. A live band supplied the entertainment. centering around the music of the '50s and '60s. Unfortunately, we didn't stay as long as we had planned — we were beat — a hard day of relaxation was catching up on us! I advise this vacation a MUST for everyone, although I would make a few alterations the next time. First of all, our children will also come with us, for there is an endless number of activities for children to enjoy. This is right up their alley, as they love sports. Secondly. and most important, our weekend would be extended to at least a week another time!
