Vanastra Slopiteh results
By Maureen Dunsmore
VANASTRA - Despite the cold and rain
the Vanastra Lions annual Friendship Slo-
Pitch Tournament held on October 2 to 4,
was a great success.
Sixteen teams started playing ball on
Thursday night, with the finals being played
Sunday afternoon. The teams came from
Goderich, Blyth, Exeter, Londesboro, Clin-
ton and Vanastra.
Although not many spectators lined the
bleachers, all the teams braved the cold and
rain to enjoy a good game of slo-pitch. In the
first round of games there was a most
valuable player picked from each team.
These players were presented with a ball
cap.
The two teams playing for the :`B" Cham-
pionship were the Saltford Valley and the
Vanastra Vikings. The Vikings won the
trophy with a score of 24 to 12.
The "A" Championship trophy went to
Mike's Boys who won over the Local 1863
team with a score of 23-13.
During the tournament tickets were sold
on a "Hog on the Hoof". Ken Schmidt of
Vanastra was the lucky winner.

Vegetable cooking
techniques are studied
4-H News
Kippen 3 4-H Club held its third meeting at
Brucefield United Church on Tuesday,
September 29. Kate Papple, president, open-
ed with the 4-H 'pledge and roll call was
answered.
A.B.C, of cooking vegetables was the topic
in the books, explaining techniques of boil-
ing, canning, microwaving, steaming and
stir frying. Later on in the evening
vegetables were cooked using all techniques
and a taste test was held to see which
method was liked the best. Everybody had
their own preference however, so members
couldn't rate one any better than the other.
In the stir frying members put in carrots,
cauliflower, broccoli, mushrooms and
onions which were placed on a bed of rice. It
was easy to make and delicious to eat.
Press reporter for this meeting was Bar-
bara Fotheringham.
Three 4-1-1 leaders of Kippen 3 Club, Janet
Papple, Pat Predhomme, and Barb Moffat,
entered two exhibits in the Seaforth Fall
Fair this year. One was in the non competi-
tion class, from the "Milk Makes It" Club,
and depicted "Types of Milk". The second
exhibit was from the "Surviving with Style"
Club' and was called "This is the Way we
Wash our Clothes". This exhibit won first
prize obtaining 92 marks out of 100. Con-
gratulations to leaders and members who
put forth the effort to make this project
worthwhile.
