STRAUGHAN Mr. Benson C. (Ben) Straughan, Goderich, died at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Saturday, October 3, 1987. He was born in Benmiller April 23, 1916, the son of the late Arthur Straughan and the former Olive Cluff. He attended Benmiller Public School, graduated from Goderich District Col- legiate Institute and Shaws Business Col- lege in Toronto. He was secretary -treasurer of No. 12 Elementary Flying Training School - Sky Harbour (1940-43). Mr. Straughan served in the Canadian Army, Intelligence Service, Ottawa, during World War I). He farmed in Colborne Townshop (Benmiller) 1946-67. He was an accountant with A.M. Harper and Company and then macGillivray and Co. He served as chief accountant for the Huron County Board of Education 1969-75. He was Clerk -Treasurer of Colborne Township for many years and Treasurer 1975-87. He was a member of Victoria Street United Church. He was also a member and past president of Morning Star Lodge 309 A.F.&A.M. and Huron Chapter 30 R.A.M. Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Archer; two, daughters Chrystal and her husband - Gary Jewitt of Clinton, and Susanne and her husband Gord Strang of Exeter; and one son Bill and his wife Judi of Sudbury. Also surviving are two sisters, Helen (Mrs. Kaye Dawson) of Dungannon and Bet- ty (Mrs. Orville Stanley) of Clinton. Surviv- ing grandchildren are Jennifer and Susan Jewitt, Rob, Ryan and Kelly Straughan, and Kristin Strang. Funera and committal services were held at McCallum and Palla Funeral Home Monday, October 5 with Rev. Bruce Tombs, Victoria Street United Church, officiating. Interment at Colborne Cemetery. Doris Ruby MacDougall Doris Ruby MacDougall of Bayfield died in London's St. Joseph's Hospital on ENGAGEMENT � 1 REGIER - McBRIDE John and Mary McBride of R.R. 1, Zurich are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Joanne Mary to George Joseph, son of Clare and Mary Faye Regier of R R.3, Zurich. The ceremony will take place Saturday, October 17. 1987 at 2'00 p.m. in St. Boniface Church, Zurich. Reception to follow (Photo by William Mason) September 17. She was born in Midland on March 12, 1909 to Joesph and Elizabeth Soden. On July 5, 1952 she married Harvey MacDougall, formerly of Kinloss Township. Mrs. MacDougall taught school for many years in Toronto. She and her husband retired to Bayfield in 1970. There, she en- joyed hobbies of flower gardening and painting. Mrs. MacDougall is predeceased by her husband. He died in May of this year. She is survived by Lloyd and Ann Mac- Dougall, Jack and Blanche 1 MacDougall ) Needham of Lucknow, Clair and Minnie MacDougall of Port Credit. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service was held at the Bayfield United Church on September 20 with Rev. Hoekstra officiating. Following cremation, interment was held at the South Kinloss Cemetery. Karen Louise Wilson A former Bayfield resident, Karen Louise Wilson died in Woodham on September 29. She was 30. Mrs. Wilson was born .in Clinton on September 11, 1957, the dauhter of the late Kith (_mmPinharrlt anti Kathleen (Kent? Renner of Bayfield. She was a graduate of Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton. She had work- ed as a store manager with the Southaldn Corporation in London. On December 19, 1975 she was married to James Wilson in Toronto. Following their marriage, the couple moved to London, where they lived until moving to Taber, Alberta. In 1983 they moved back to Ontario. Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband, her step -father Percy Renner and her mother Kathleen (Kay) Renner. She was predeceased by her father. Also surviving are two sisters, Linda Ge- meinhardt and her husband Robert of Wat- ford and Monica Gemeinhardt and her hus- band Glen of Toronto. She is also survived by three step -sisters, Faith ( Mrs. Allan Taylor) of RR1 Brucefield, Hope (Mrs. Burt Lobb) and Cindy Renner, both of Clinton, and one step -brother David Renner of Clinton. Funeral and committal services were held at the Ball and Falconer Funeral Home, Clinton on October 2. Rev. George Youmatoff of Bayfield officiated. Interment was held at the Bayfield Cemetery. VON celebrate 90th year of nursing service in Canada CLINTON - For VICTORIAN ORDER OF NURSES (CANADA) 90th anniversary, the Perth -Huron branch held a wine and cheese reception at the home of Reeve Bee Cooke in Clinton, September 23. VON Staff, Board Members and representatives from dif- ferent community organizations who work closely with VON were present. The main ohipetive of this event way to in - crease awareness of VON and its role in Huron County and provide an opportunity for VON Staff and Board Members to familiarize themselves with other organiza- tions and individuals. Following the wine and cheese social, VON Board Members had a dinner board meeting at the Clinton Town Hall. Service at Wesley•Willis Everyone welcome '7y z%d Local weddings Westlake -Haney On August 21, Elaine Mildred Westlake, daughter of Keith and Margaret Westlake of Zurich and Matthew George Haney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Haney of RR4 Seaforth, were married in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Zurich. Pastor Steven Alles and Pastor David Pfrimmer officiated. Heather Westlake, violinist, niece of the bride, was accompanied by Christine Eagleson, organist. Carol Campbell was the matron of honor and Nick Klaver was the best man. The bridal party included, Jayne and An- drew Westlake, niece and nephew of the bride, Alicia Dalton and Murray Workman, niece and nephew of the groom. Guests were ushered into the church by Tim Westlake, nephew of the bride, and Tom Workman, brother-in-law of the groom. After the ceremony, guests visited the home of the bride's parents. A wedding dinner and reception was held at the Oakwood Inn. The newlyweds honeymooned to the Eastern United States and to the Maritimes. They will reside at RR4 Seaforth. The bride is the daughter of Jerry and Mary DeBoer of Ex- eter and the groom is the son of Case and Marg Kuiper of RR1 Clinton. Maid of honor was Rose Saarloos of St. Thomas and bridal attendants were Sandra DeBoer of Exeter and Lisa Vandezande of London. The best man was Don Vink of Woodstock and ushers were Ralph and Mark Kuiper of Clinton. A wedding reception was held at the Exeter Legion. The newlyweds honeymooned to Quebec before making their new home in Clinton. Knox United Church, Auburn, was the set- ting for the September 5 wedding of Steve Stratton of RR 1 Londesboro and Glenyce McClinchey of RR 1 Auburn. Rev. Dave Snihur officiated at the ceremony. Steve is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Stratton of Hanover and Glenyce is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold McClinchey of RR 1 Auburn. Matron of honor was Mrs. Doreen McCullough, sister of the "bride, of Holmesville. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Karen McClinchey, sister-in-law of the bride, of Kitchener; Mrs. Wendy Van Osch, cousin of the bride, of Lucknow; and, Mrs. Sandra Nicholson, sister of the groom, of Blyth. Flowergirls wre Julie and Kim McCullough, nieces of the bride, of Holmesville. Best man was Les Knott, friend of the groom, of Rodney. Ushers were Robert McCullough, brother-in-law of the bride, of Holmesville; Doug Perry, friend of the groom, of Wind- sor; and, Gary Nicholson, brother-in-law of the groom, of Blyth. Following a reception at the Blyth Community Centre, the couple left sof a trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica. They are residing at RR 1 Londesboro.
