Children Learn what They Live
By Kathy Bromley
As we are now in Family Week, through
until Sunday, I found the following verse,
which is very appropriate for the occasion.
Children Learn
What They Live
If a child lives with criticism,
He learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility,
He learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule,
He learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame,
He learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with tolerance,
He learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement,
He learns confidence.
If a child lives with praise,
He learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness,
He learns justice.
If a child lives with security,
He learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval,
He learns to like himself.
If a child lives with acceptance and
friendship,
He learns to find love in the world.
Bingo and euchre season is on
BLYTH - Bingo was held again last
Wednesday, with numerous winners at
Queen's Villa. There were seven tenants
present, with Pearl Crawford winning a bag
of candies, donated by Snell's Groceries.
Cliff Hoegy was the lucky winner for a full
card. He received a gift certificate,
breakfast for two, compliments of the
Village Restaurant. John Young was the
recipient of the door prize, a strawberry
plant. Lunch was served and everyone open-
ed their prizes for everyone to see. Bingo
resumes again Wednesday afternoon. I
would gladly appreciate any donations you
wish to make.
On Monday night, 11 tables were under-
way for the weekly Euchre Card Party, at
Blyth Memorial Hall. The high lady's score
for the evening was earned by Mary Shob-
brook while, Graham McDowell captured
the men's high score. Prizes were also earn-
ed by Rena Watt and Elmer Townsend, of
Seaforth, for having the low scores in
euchre. Mrs. Mel Jacklin of Brussels ai'd

display a different musical talent! !

dow washer on the 44th floor, who steps back

more. The weekly writers come from

New reporters were recruited from Grade

writing skills the three applicants wrote an
article entitled "What I Like Best About
Grade 5".
Members of the Newspaper Club are:
Grade 5, Tina Burkholder, Kim Ferguson,
Erica Clark; Grade 6, Stephanie Lentz,
John Ramirez; Grade 7 Chrystal Cucksey,

What I Like
About Grade 5
By Tina Burkholder
There are a lot of things I like about Grade
5 but there are about three important ones!
The first one is that all my teachers are real-
ly nice! The second one is that we are in the
senior grades and get to go for recess at 2:30
in the afternoon instead of at 2:15. That's
when the little kids go out! The third thing is
that we get to go in to all the dances! There
was a dance on September 18th. It was a
pretty good dance. Most of the Grade fives
went in it.
ale,
The third annual Goderich and District Lions Clubs WaIk-A-Dog-A-Thon was held Sunday in
Goderich with about 30 walkers and dogs participating. The Blyth contingent comprised of
back row from left) Karen Berard, Chrsytal Cucksey, Karen Lee and Jennifer Cucksey,
I front row from left) Ken Cucksey, Jonathan Cucksey, Bridgette Cucksey and Erica Clarke
took the Cucksey's Family dog Lady for the 10 km walk through the streets of Goderich. The
event, which began and ended at Suncoast Mall, saw about $3,200 raised for Canine Vision
Canada, a national training facility for guide dogs and visually impaired Canadians, in-
itiated and operated by Canadian Lions Foundation and located in Oakville. Lions clubs
from Goderich, Clinton, Auburn, Londesboro and Blyth participated. (photo by Lou -Ann

What I Like Best
About Grade 5
By Kimberley Ferguson
I like Grade five a lot, but the two main
things are silent Reading and Social Studies.
Silent Reading is right after the morning
recess. We read from 10:45 until 11:00.
Second, I like Social Studies, because I
like maps. I like colouring and labelling
maps.
Rinngggg! ! Well, I've got to go because
it's USSR time.
What I.Like Best
About Grade 5
By Erica Clark
I like math because it is new and in-
teresting. I also like Reading Comprehen-
sion because I like reading, and doing the
questions helps me learn to remember!
My favourite subject is USSR ( which is
silent reading ),I also like the teacher$. I like
French because I like the language. I like
Social Studies because I like doing maps. I
like Science too because we are learning
about plants. I also like art a lot because I
like making things. Two of my favourite ac-
tivities are the Newspaper and Library
Clubs and I also thought it was fun to vote
for Student Council.
They Score!
By John Ramirez
On September 30 the Grade 4,5,, and 6
students from Blyth Public School and
neighboring schools went to Brucefield to
play in a soccer tournament. The scores are
as follows: Junior Girls: Blyth tied with
Seaforth 0-0. Hullet beat Blyth girls 4-0.
Blyth tied Clinton 1-1, Stephanie Lentz
scored the only goal.
Junior Boys: Blyth beat Clinton 2-1.
Michael Bromley scored both goals. Blyth
beat St. Joseph's Separate School 7-0.
Michael Bromley scored 4 goals, Brian
Machan scored 1, Henry Bos scored 2.
During the games there was a slight driz-
zle but the teams came through in fine
shape. The students would like to thank the
Physical Education teacher, Mr. Liver-
moore for coaching all the students and an
additional thanks to Michelle Cronin for her
help in coaching the girls as part of her Co-
op program at C.H.S.S.
