Young earns top award
AUBURN - Donald Young has been
awarded the Distinguished Service Award
by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of On-
tario at the Provincial Annual Meeting held
recently in Toronto. This is the highest form
of recognition awarded by the Heart and
Stroke Foundation to a volunteer. The
volunteer must have provided outstanding
service to the organization provincially or
regionally. Don is one of only two to receive
this award in Ontario this year.
Don has been a dedicated volunteer both
locally and provincially for many years His
Apartment build

ject was carried from the first council
meeting to the special meeting. This issue
was drainage.
During the October 5 meeting, Mr. Bailey
asked where he might connect up to the
storm sewers.
Murray Taylor, the town's bylaw enforce-
ment officer, explained there is a registered
easement that runs to a sanitary drain on
Princess Street, and there was no reason it
couldn't also be used as a storm drain.
"By law you can't be refused an outlet to a
drain," he said.
However, Mr. Bailey was cautioned by his
lawyer that it might not be a good idea to
run a drain across someone else's property
greatest contribution has been in the area of
Jump Rope For Heart but he is also a foun-
ding member of the local chapter and has
served as secretary and campaign chair-
man for Huron County. For three years he
was South Western Ontario regional
representative on the Provincial Jump Rope
For Heart committee.
Don is a dedicated volunteer who has car-
ried out his responsibilities without asking
for thanks or reward and his longstanding
commitment to the Foundation deserves
this special recognition.
ing delayed
because if it is tapped into by another party,
it could back up to his property. Therefore,
he suggested a meeting with the neighbor-
ing landowners. This request was met with
the October 6 meeting.
The final matter concerned only Mr.
Bailey and the town. Mr. Bailey stated that
in June he asked council for a laneway ;nto
his lot, and he wondered when it would be
provided.
It was explained to the apartment owner
that a permanent curb was not cut original-
ly because of the construction vehicles
travelling in and out, and therefore a tern-
porary asphalt ramp was provided.
Council promised to look into the issue,
and have the curb cut when time allows.
