Star meets in Ottawa
For the first time in many years, the
Grand Chapter Session of the Order of the
Eastern Star were held in Ottawa at the
beautiful Congress ('enter. There were 2,170
members in attendance, including almost
200 guests from the United States and other
provinces, and one couple from Australia.
Several members of Clinton Chapter were
in attendance, including Mary Robertson,
Joan Lyndon, Connie Nesbitt, Hilda Bell,
Mildred Anient, Thelma Ellerby, Eunice
Arthur, Helen Wells, Florence Symons, and
Don Symons, Past Grand Patron. Mrs.
Symons was organist for the drills each day,
Mr. Symons was in charge of registration.
Worthy Grand Matron, Vera Heffel of Ot-
tawa, was the winner of the "Booster of the
Year" Award for bringing the largest con-
vention to Ottawa this year. As well as a
trophy, she was the recipient of a trip to any
place in the world for herself and her
husband.
This year's theme was the Carousel of
Faith, Love and Joy, and the Worthy Grand
Matron's Project was the Ontario Associa-
tion for Children and Adults with Learning
Disabilities. During the sessions this year, it
was announced that a total of approximate-
ly $60,000.00 was given to this very wor-
thwhile cause. The Florence Nightingale
Home Foundation, of which Mrs. Symons is
a director, gave over $50,000.00 in equip-
ment to nine hospitals throughout the pro-
vince during the year 1986-87.
