(Corbett photo) Seniors to attend District Rally Auburn Silver Tops Auburn Silver Tops held their first dinner of the Fall Season on Wednesday September 23. After dinner a short meeting was held with the new president Kay Lapp in the Chair. A minutes of silence was held for those seniors in the Auburn Community who had passed away in the past year. Plans were made to attend the District Rally on October 14 and to entertain Blyth Swinging Senoirs on October 23. Ethel Ball then show- ed pictures of her trip to Alaska this past summer. These were very interesting and enjoyed by all. The president thanked Ethel. It was planned to start the euchre parties in October. Local Miss Yvonne Bean of St. Thomas was in Auburn for the baptism of her nephew Brett Bean lsat Sunday at Knox United Church and spent the remainder of the week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bean. Mrs. Wilma Brawley moved from the village to Huron Haven trailer park on Saturday. Mr. Tom Haggit returned home from Clin- ton Public Hospital last week following surgery Recent vistors with Mrs. Grances Clark were Mr. and Mrs. Burrill Williams of Bow Island Alberta, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kienzle of Kettering, Ohio and Misses Jean Horiston and Jean Jamieson of Toronto. Mrs. Mary Blacker of Stratford visited with Mrs.Lillian Leaterland for a few days recently. Gordon Sisley of Belville, Mrs. Lawrence Nesbitt of Port Perry and Mr. and Mrs. Stan McNall of Welland visited with Laura Phillips and Ellen Johnston the past week. Mrs. Henry Ferguson of Champion Alber- ta and Mr. Donald Mallory of Kirkcaldi Alberta cousins of Oliver's visited at the Anderson home and Mr. William Anderson of Newmarket visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson recently. Birthday Party On Friday September 25 a group of Auburn ladies had as their guest Mrs. Nan- cy Slater at the Candlelight in Goderich to celebrate Mrs. Slater's birthday, Con- gratulations Nancy form the Aurburn Cor- respomdent reporter. General Meeting of U.C.W. The General Meeting of the Aurburn U.C.W. was held on Wednesday evening September 23. The devotional was on "Love" given by Mrs. Maurice Bean and Mrs. Don Haines. The opening hymn was "Wonderful Words" and Mrs. Barry Millian was the pianist. The sermonette was given by Mrs. Haines, Offering was received and Mrs. Bean gave the offertory prayer. She closed the devotional with reading from the 3 Chapter Ecclesiasters and stating that it might be good for every one to read that chapter and the preceding one. A play "Toys for playing not fighting" was shown by Mrs. Ross Dobie. It showed that there is an increase in criminal violence. Five of the top selling toys are one of aggression violence. It was thought a pro- voking play. Two excellent skits were then perfromed by Mrs. Jack Armstrong, Mrs. Barry Millian, Mrs. Jake Middlekamp and Mrs. Dana Bean. A discussion followed and the singing of "O Lord of Life and Love and Power" closed the devotional part. Mrs. Peter Verbak opened the business with prayer. The convenors gave their reports. It was decided that new devotionals be pur- chased and that carpet be bought for the Nursery room. Mrs. Kryzanowski and Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer served a delicious lunch and a social half hour was enjoyed. Knox United Church Service Knox United Church service was con- ducted by Rev. Dave Snihur with organist Mrs. Gordon Gross. The service started with a Hymnsing and the children went to their Sunday School rooms. Call to Worship was read alternatively. Hymn "0 For a Thousand Tongues to Sing" was sung. Prayer of Confession was read in unison followed by Announcements. Hymn "Saviour Teach Me Day By Day" was sung. Scripture reading was given by the minister followed by the Prayer Chorus. The Senior Choir sang the anthem "Seek and Ye Should Find." The minister's sermon was entitled "John- The Disciple Whom Jesus Loved." The offering was received by Ken Ramsey and Murray Follison followed by Offeratory Response. The minister pronounced the Benediction followed by the Benediction Response "Lord We Pray." Bible Study for adults will be held at Rev Snihur's on Friday at 1:15. Next Sunday will be World Wide Communion. Rural youth look at future of agriculture The Rural Youth Connection was held on September 11, 1987 at the Western Fair. Seventeen Huron County 4-H members 'took part in the Judging Competition and also seventeen 4-H'ers participated in the Educational program. The 4-H members were able to judge Beef, Dairy, Swine, Fruit Juices, Door Locks, Gate Signs and Corn. Those participating in the Educational Program heard from various speakers dealing with such topics as Family Abuse, Future Work, Animal Rights and En- vironmental Pollution. Also a panel discus- sion was held entitled "Is There a Future for Young People in Agriculture?". Congratulations and thanks to all the Huron County 4-H members who participated. Mrs. Snell spoke on her year on the Royal Commission of Labrador. Thanks were received from Gordon and Darlene Shobbrook, Helen Alexander, Mary Longman and Margaret Good. The Fall Presbyterial will be held in Bayfield on September 30 at 6:30 p.m. The treasurer's report was given by Kitty McGregor. The October meeting will be held on October 23 at 8 p.m. Lunch was served by Helen Lawson, Florence Snell and Audrey Thompson. United Church Greeting members to the United Church on September 27 was Margaret Wright, and the ushers were Gerban Wilts, David Whyte, Larry Gross and Stephen Duizer. The following announcements were made. The Huronview Autumn Tea will be held on September 30 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. A Sunday School staff meeting will be held on October 5. The junior youth group will meet on October 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church for board games. Communion will be held on October 4. A board meeting for session and stewards will be held on October 6 at 7:45 p.m. sharp. For childrens' time they sang a song, and Rev. David Snihur told the children a story. Personals John Armstrong is a patient in Seaforth Community Hospital. He was admitted on" September 25. September 27 visitors with Gordon and Darlene Shobbrook were Dr. Bill and Gladys Waters of Goderich, along with Sam and Nancy Cowan of Port Albert. Dora Shobbrook recently spent a week in Woodstock with Muriel Ross Millson and family. On September 24 Margaret Taylor, Alice Buchanan and Lois Elliott attended the 85th anniversary of the Wingham WI. Mr. and Mrs.. John Marshall, Robert and Tammy of Goderich, along with Mr. and Mrs. George Marshall of London, have mov- ed into the home they bought from Win. Bromley. We welcome them to Londesboro. Best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Steven Rad- ford who were married here on September 26. They will make their new home on the former Harry Lear farm. Orville and Nettie Newby visited on September 23 with Dorothy Orchard of Thorndale. The family of Nettie and Orville Newby visited them on September 27 for their mother's birthday. Present were Dorothy and Bob Menary, Kim, Glenn and Fran Michelle of New Markt, Don and Phyllis Newby, Ken and David of Kitchener, Jim Newby of Calgary, Jim and Susan Pearson, Jessica and Darren of Baden, and Dianne and Terry Thomas of Kitchener. Garden Girls start a new 4-11 year in Clinton CLINTON - On September 16, the Clinton 3 4-H club held its first meeting of the season. The executive election was held resulting with Teresa vandenElzen as president, Angela Reid as vice president, Angela vandenElzen as secretary and Christine Kemp as press reporter. The leaders are Chrystal Jewitt and Jo Ann Walker. The president Teresa vanderElzen is also going to be a junior leader for this club. Mrs. Walker provided the snack called Gaspacho that had a very definite flavor. The club's second meeting was held at the Walker's home on September 23. The group decided to call the club name `The Garden Girls'. Everyone assisted in making an apple pancake which was delicious. The next meeting will be held at Jewitt's at 6:00, September 30.- by Christine Kemp. UCW celebrate 25th year CLINTON - Twenty-eight ladies gathered in the Ontario Street United Church parlor for the UCW Evening Unit meeting. Devotions on the theme "Home Is Where The Heart Is" were led by Beatrice Welsh, Valier Mair, Reta Wright, and Mary East. Marlene Forbes was pianist. Thirty-five hospital calls and 38 home calls were reported. Cars will be going to the Huron -Perth UCW Rally at Bayfield Church on Wednesday, September 30th.
