National Tap
Dance Company
comes to Blyth
BLYTH - The Blyth Centre for the Arts is
proud to welcome the internationally ac-
claimed National Tap Dance Company of
Canada for two shows, Fascinating
Rhythms for adults and a children's
matinee of Oliver Button is a sissy on
September 26, at Blyth Memorial Hall.
Founded in 1976, The National Tap Dance
Company is Canada's first group dedicated
to the art of tap dancing. It has built an im-
pressive reputation touring constantly.

States, and China. In 1986 the Company per-
formed at Expo 86 in Vancouver and in 1985
at the Quebec City Reagan/Mulroney
summit.
On September 26, at 8 p.m. the presenta-
tion will be Fascinating Rhythms featuring
the .music of Gershwin, Bach and Oscar
Peterson. The program includes
choreography by Brian Macdonald and
various styles of tap dance from classical to
Fred Astaire. "Tap virtuosity" says the
Toronto Star.
During the afternoon at 2 p.m., the Com-
pany's production of Oliver Button Is. A
Sissy will be performed. Based on the
popular book by Tomie de Paola, this 50
minute fantasy is about a little boy who
doesn't want to play with the other kids but

SUMMER
WEDDINGS
Pilato-Mallace
Janice Mallace of Toronto, daughter of Er-
vin and Doris Sillery of Exeter, and Pino
Pilato of Toronto, were married on August
28 in North York Chapel in Toronto by Rev.
Robertson. Maid of honor was Corrinne
Mallace of Toronto and the flower girl was
Giu Lea. Best man was Frank Mallace of
Toronto and the ringbearer was Nicolina
Mallace. A reception was held at La Pantola
Restaurant and they honeymooned at Local
Points. The couple will reside in
Downsview.
Plaetzer-Cunningham
On July 11, Linda Cunningham and Larry
Plaetzer were married at Knox United
Church in Auburn. Rev. Rick Hawley per-
formed the ceremony with duets sung by
Anne Alton and Ken Wall. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cunningham
of RR1 Auburn and the groom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer of RR!
Auburn. Maid of honor was Debra Cunn-
ingham and bridesmaids were Julia and
Leona Cunningham. Best man was Dana
Bean and ushers were Rich Archambault
and Roger Cunningham. After the wedding,
guests were invited to the bride's parents
home. The reception and dinner was held in
the Blyth Community Centre. The couple
honeymooned in Cove Haven, a honeymoon
resort in the• Pogono Mountains of Penn-
sylvania. Larry and Linda Plaetzer are

Grade 8 offered at Vanastra

VANASTRA - The Vanastra Public School
has started the school year of 1987-88 off
with a few new additions.
This year will be the first year for Grade 8
at the school. In other years, Grade 6 was
the last year for the students, last year
Grade 7 was added. Now the school will
have its first graduating class.
A new teacher has joined the staff at the
school. Mrs. Hencher will be the Special
Learning Needs teacher, plus she will teach
some music classes.
Also added to the school has been an office
for two area resource teachers. Jillian
Johnston and Deb Ileslinga will have .their
office at the school instead of the Huron
County Board of Education Office.
The office of the principal Miss Walsh has
been moved to the Conestoga wing of the
school. June Johns, the secretary of the

The students of Grades 5 and 6 have been
learning about the election process in class.
To teach the students about the polling sta-
tion, Mrs. Pletch, took the class to the
Vanastra Recreation Centre on September
10. At the polling station, the deputy return-
ing officer and poll clerk explained their
jobs and the procedure involved in casting a
vote.
Parents are reminded that open house will
be held on September 24 at 7 p.m.
Lioness News
September 17 will be the first business
meeting of the Vanastra Lioness Club.
The club is holding their annual
Christmas Bazaar on November 21 at the
Vanastra Recreation Centre.
Lions Club News
The Vanastra Lions Club are holding their
annual friendship tournament the first
weekend in October. The games will be
played on the Vanastra Ball Diamond on Oc-
tober 3 and 4. The club is hoping to hav ' 16
teams play in the slo-pitch tournament.
Over 30s Slo-Pitch Play Offs
The Vanastra Old Pros hosted the over 30s
slo-pitch play offs on September 11 and 13.
Three games were played on Friday
night. First Clinton won over Porters Hill 5
to 4, second Holmesville over Vanastra 14 to
4, and third game, Goderich Township over
Auburn 9 t� 8.
On Saturday, the games started at 8 a.m.

Township 15 to 3. The play offs, started at
3:30 p.m. with the "B" series final played by
Porters Hill and Auburn. The trophy went to
Auburn with a score of 20 to 2. The "A" final
was played at 5 p.m., Holmesville against
Varna. Varna won the trophy with a score of
20 to 5. -
A dance featuring the band Jasper was
held in the Vanastra Recreation Centre that
evening.
Windsurfing
race set
The fourth annual Goderich Fun Cup
windsurfing race is set to go this weekend
at Point Farms Provincial Park.
The race, featuring both pros and
amateurs from all over Ontario, is hosted
by Goderich windsurfing and Bluewater
Boardsailing club.
Racing begins at 11 a.m. Saturday and
Sunday in various classes including:
men's heavy, men's light, womens,
masters and youths. Awards will be
presented Sun. after the racing.
Spectators are welcome and for more in-
