The double -ring ceremony was conducted by Rev. Fred Neill of Walkerton. The bride is the daughter of James and Carol Arm- strong, Walkerton and the groom is the son of Joe and Isobel Gibson, Seaforth. The bride's Victorian Period style dress was of antique white thai silk, designed and made by the bride's sister, Liz Armstrong. The ankle length gown had oversized sleeves and very full skirts with a fitted bodice and princess neckline. The garment was adorn- ed with hand -dyed lace and decorated with tear drop pearls. The bride's sculpted pearl headpiece was designed and made in England. Both matron of honor, Deb Falconer, sister of the bride, and bridesmaid Cherly Thurber, friend of the bride, wore cocktail length gowns of simple Victorian style in lilac silk. Flowergirls, Ashley Wilson, niece of the bride and Sonya Gibson, niece of the groom wore cotton liberty print ankle length dresses with a wide cummerbund tie in a large bow at the rear. The mother of the bride wore a full cir- cle skirt with matching semi -fitted jacket in a black and white polka dot print, ac- cessorized with a red sweetheart rose cor- sage. The groom's mother wore a day length belted chemise of pastel colors accented with a corsage of dusty sweetheart rosses. The best man was Bill Whyte, a friend of the groom and the ushers were Nick Klaver, friend of the groom, Bill Armstrong, brother of the bride and Paul Gibson, brother of the groom. Music was provided by organist Brian Emery of Stratford and flutist Jen- nifer Shaw of Walkerton. Solists were Ken and Carol Rowe of Hanover. Guests of honor were grandparents of the bride, Don and Millie MacKenzie from Bracebridge and grandmother of the groom, Florence Lud- vigsen of Clinton. Other guests travelled from Ignace, Toronto, Brampton and Chatham. After the church service, the guests enjoyed a garden party and barbecue at the home of the bride's parents. The newlyweds honeymooned in Greece for 212 weeks and are now residing at RR 4 Wingham. John Randall Potter B.A. John Randall Potter received his Certificate of Honor standing from the University of Western Ontario in June. John is the son of Joe and June Potter of RR3 Clinton and the gralidson of Ruth Taylor of Zurich. He has accepted a position at General Motors Ac- ceptance in London. Jean Isabel! Woods Jean Isabell Woods, daughter of Gordon and Catherine Caldwell, graduated recently from Lambton College, Sarnia, in Office Ad- ministration General. Jean was the reci- pient of the President's Award for having the highest marks in the course. Brenda and Kit will be residing at 33 Quinn Crescent, Matheson, where Brenda is on staff at Matheson General Hospital and Kit works for Algoma Electric in Timmins. He was 60. The son of the late Arnold Raymond Miller and Florence Elizabeth Lawson, he was born on May 16, 1927. He worked as a cement finisher and was active in sponsoring hockey and baseball teams in Clinton. He was married to Phyllis Hoy on May 14, 1949 in Clinton. Along with his wife, Mr. Miller is survived by one son, Robert and his wife Valerie and two grandchildren, Marsha and Jon Miller. He is also survived by a brother Keith Miller of RR 2 Bayfield. Funeral services were held on August 29 at the Ball and Falconer Funeral Horne, Clinton. Rev. James Bechtel officiated and interment was held at the Clinton Cemetery. The flower bearers were Reg Miller and Ross Miller. Pallbearers were Bruce Miller, James Hoy, Lloyd Hoy, Wayne Hoy and Wilfred Bezzo. C D Denomme BOX FUNERAL CHAPEL 47 HIGH STREET S€AFORTH WILLIAM BARRY WHETSTONE William Barry Whetstone, of Goderich, died at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on Saturday, September 5 at the age of 50. Born in London on December 4, 1936, he was the son of L.O. Whetstone and the former Helen Brethour. He was a sales clerk at Canadian Tire in Goderich and a member of North Street United Church. Surviving besides his father, L.O. (Nip) Whetstone of Goderich, are: his wife, the former Marie Lyddiatt; daughter Marlene of Vancouver, B.C.; daughter Joanne of Willowdale, Ont.; brother Vic and his wife Bev Whetstone of Goderich; and, one grand - chile, Lindsay. The funeral service was conducted Mon- day, September 7 at the McCallum and Palla Funeral Home with Rev. Robert 0. Ball, of North Street United Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Doug Cruickshank, Gary Ross, Ron Whetstone, Rick Whetstone, Dan Whetstone and George Sager. Interment at Maitland Cemetery. William Arthur Wright William Arthur Art) Wright of John Street, Seaforth, died August 27. at the (lin- ton Public Hospital. He was 81. Born at Listowel he was a son of the late Alfred Wright and the former Mary McNeill. He had owned and operated Wright's Groceries in Seaforth and started the first self -serve store there. He was a Co -Op In- surance agent for 14 years until his retire- ment in 1959. Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys Ducklow; two sons, • Donald and wife Marilyn of Clinton and Doug and wife Wen- dy of Ottawa and grandchildren David, Paul, Rhonda and Scott of Clinton and Wade and Jarrett of Kanata. Mr. Wright was predeceased by one son Harold Wayne; two sister, Jenny Vines and Beatrice Knipe and two brothers in infancy. Visitation was held at the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth and a funeral ser- vice and committal was held August 31. Rev. James Vanslyke officiated. Burial took place in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery, Listowel on September 1. Friends came from Sarnia, Grand Bend, London, Markdale, Waterloo, Stratford, Kit- chener, Listowel, Windsor, Kincardine and Mitchell. Premier names board members to oversee new provincial organ network; opens mu, . lti-organ transplant unit LONDON - Dr. Robert McClure, former Moderator of the United Church of Canada, will chair the board of directors of the pro- vince's expanded organ retrieval and distribution network, Premier David Peter- son announced recently. - "I am extremely pleased that Dr. Mc- Clure has accepted this position," Mr. Peterson said. "His long history of involve- ment in spiritual, ' ethical and medical issues, as well as his high publib profile, combined to make him a natural choice to lead this life-saving program." A three million dollar expansion of the ex- isting organ retrieval network was announc- ed last month by Health Minister Murray Elston to unify the process of locating and matching organs. A computerised informa- tion system will link all transplant hospitals in Ontario, and result in al single waiting list for all potential transplant recipients in Ontario. The board of directors will establish a cen- tral office to administer the program and be responsible for the provincial information system. This office will also receive and direct calls from outside the province to regional retrieval programs in Toronto, London, Hamilton, Kingston and Ottawa. Mr. Peterson made the announcement while attending the official opening of the Walter J.. Blackburn Multi -Organ Transplant Unit at University Hospital. The 12 bed unit is expected to perform about 250 heart, liver, kidney, lung and pan- creas transplants each year, including all pre and post-operative care. It is equipped with the latest in life-saving technology, in- cluding computerized heart and lung machines. Located in an extension to the hospital's fourth floor terrace, the unit also includes .an exercise room, roof garden and quiet areas. "University Hospital's transplant team under Dr. Cal Stiller is recognized as one of the foremost in the world," said Mr. Peter- son. "This unit will allow the team to offer more patients with organ failure a new chance at life. We are proud to help finance its construction." The Ministry of Health contributed $4.8 million toward the unit's $7.2 million cost. Golden Radars hold ,first meeting of the year CLINTON - Clinton Golden Radar Club held its first meeting for 1987-88 in the club rooms at the town hall on Sept. 2. President Minlue Rumball conducted the meeting. Treasurer Violet Howes read her yearly report audited by John Deeves and the yearly report for flowers and cards was read by convenor Mable McAdam. Social convenor, Margaret Thorndike reported on two bus trips: one to Bruce Peninsula September 22 and the second to Kawartha Lakes area October 6-8. Anyone interested, please phone Margaret for more information. In lieu of roll call, a recess was declared for payment of membership dues - 29 Members received their cards. The next meeting, September 16 will begin with a potluck supper at h pm. The new of- ficers will be officially installed. 'i'he US('O Convention report will be given by delegate Ida Godkin.
