Dawna Westlake,. who has convened this campaign for 14 years, is at the helm once more. She would have been grateful to relinquish the office this year, but would riot see the canvass stopped for want of a convenor. This is what has happened to the Red Cross, in a town whose people are so very fortunate and really generous in support of any worthwhile endeavor. We must give her a break next year, but for now volunteers to make the canvass would be the greatest help. We all know what a crippling affliction ar- thritis is. The money given in other years across the country, has produced some splendid results. Plastic hips for instance have saved many of it's victims from a wheel chair existence. When the canvasser calls make it a pleasure for them and give what you can. We really do not have too many requests for gifts to organizations on a national scale. Meanwhile many of our stores have boxes, where your change can be deposited. The UCW is back in full swing after the summer, all those pies behind them. Unit 2 meets Wednesday 8 pm at the home of Charlene Porter and Unit 2 at Grace Ander- son's, nderson's, 2 pm on Sept. 10. The congregation of St. Andrew's has cause for rejoicing as the goal has been reached to pay for the new doors and renovations so recently completed. Birthday best wishes this week to Maude Weston and her grandaughter, Kendra Sauve, who is lucky .enough to look very much like her grandmother. Hans and Val Blume, from Kitchener, have taken possession of the home they pur- chased on Louisa Street at the corner of Em- ma. They are keen sailors and found themselves travelling to Bayfield so fre- quently, they decided to buy a house in town. Dorothy and Ernie Hovey invited their im- mediate neighbors to meet them for morn- ing coffee at their home on Monday. Over the years, many attempts have been made to establish a business association with very frustrating results, simply lack of ,interest, and constantly changing ownership. Charles Machen, with others has been working very hard to form a BIA, this means Business Improvement Association. He is most happy to bring us this commen- tary on the situation at present: The 60 day period during which individual businesses in the proposed BIA area can op- pose the forming of a BIA has passed. I am pleased to say without having any businesses opposing the basic BIA concept. Now council will ask us to form a manage- ment team at their convenience. We should be able to start this as of January 88. The forming of the BIA and the "Friends of the Bi A""'in on"hie us to start long term planning for the business com- munity. Our first objective would be to put together an information brochure on Bayfield. The BIA also enables us to bring the businesses together and to work together with other organizations in Bayfield. As the program develops we will keep the com- munity informed.. The Siamese cats which have been spen- ding their summer holidays in Bayfield, have returned to their home in Toronto. Troy, the sadder but wiser cat is now the mother of four black kittens. She is bewildered to find them unlike any she has known before, but is philosophic, after a summer here when she was attacked by dogs, accused of being overweight by one area newspaper, and now bearing the pro- duct of Steve's lusty young cat.
